Kids With Special Needs and Disabilities
| Go get your child thoroughly evaluated by a developmental pediatrician before visiting any internet boards. You should know what your child has first before seeking advice from other parents. |
| As they say, pp, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... or in your case does not quack. I honestly suspect that the reality is that autism does not mean the debilitating disorder that many think. The kids on the Merld board often sound very very likely mildly to moderately impacted by asd. |
No, they don't as many, like mine are not impacted socially. Please, since you are the language disorder expert (i.e. autism), what words of wisdom do you have for OP. Your only strength here is to attack. The topic is a language disorder not autism. |
You need therapy. seriously. And I do not toss that around. My child has a resolved speech delay and does not have autism. But you are a crazy agenda driven wing nut. Your are prejudiced angainst children with autism and you should be promoting a world of inclusion. I'm tired of seeing you on this forum making every post about your stupid language versus autism debate which only exists in your mind and the world of those people who claim their kids got an improper asd diagnosis. |
And stop making every post from a new parent worried about a speech delay about your insane agenda. Let them go to the actual professionals. |
OP identified her child with a language disorder. There was no mention of autism. No one is prejudiced against those with autism but you are clearly prejudiced against kids with language disorders. Inclusion means accepting all kids for who they are and including them. You are contradicting yourself. If a child only has a language disorder, they should be treated as such and not assumed its autism. There are kids like mine who early on get an improper diagnosis as both carry similarities in the beginning but tease out later on. You don't seem ok with that. So, why are you so insistent that these kids keep an diagnosis that no longer fits them? This again is about a poster asking for help with a young child who is non-verbal and diagnosed with a language concern, not autism. Please stick to the topic and offer her support (or him) based off her post and not your agenda. |
| There's no "sticking to the topic" for neuro disordered. They categorically do not work that way. Your kid isn't talking at almost three, there is likely a reason and it isn't likely to be limited. That's the scientific truth. |
|
OP, your kid has a developmental delay in expressive and receptive speech at this point. True "disorder" diagnoses aren't given until a child is age 5/6+ and only with thorough evaluations.
Ugh, I knew this thread would devolve into an argument. I'm pretty sure I know the MERLD mom IRL. Her child was given an autism diagnosis initially, just FYI. Regardless, early intervention works regardless of diagnosis. |
| Speech therapists cannot diagnose autism. Developmental pediatricians can. However, early intervention will be almost identical for either. |
Telling you that you need to stop discriminating against people with Autism and promoting oh anything less than that. Is nto discriminating against you. You don't have a right to hurl slurs. I'm not "discriminating" against you because I told you to stop. This whole thing exists only in your own mind so I'm just going to stop addressing you. Your child very unlikely had or has only language issues. That's virtually unheard of. Sorry but that is indeed the case. And not interacting or avoiding or not speaking are all behaviors and I've seen your posts decrying children with behavior issues. I truly feel bad for your child who I imagine is "odd" "quirky" -and in a small paraochial school. |
| Also Merld mom, you doctor shopped. My son does not have autism but has tendencies and no doctor in the D.C. Area has ever suggested asd. And we've seen several at children's and private. |
What on earth are you talking about. My child is not odd or quirky, and only has language issues. He absolutely is not in a small parochial school. You are projecting. No we did not doctor shop. We are still with the same doctor and he changed his opinion. We have sought out second opinions and they all say the same thing. My child's IEP is for language only. He is on or above grade level with everything. Sorry to disappoint you. |
Whose scientific truth are you referring to? Your's? I know many kids with just language disorders. Its not autism. But, back to the original post, what do you have useful for OP? |
To get an eval and not join your cracked out Facebook group. |
The child had an evaluation. Read the post. Why do you always have to be so nasty? Do you really think its helpful? |
