Expectant and Postpartum Moms

I think OP needs to decide for herself how much weight fluctuation is normal for her. 3 lbs in 3 days might be significant if she doesn't normally fluctuate too much. Personally, I have fluctuated 5 lbs in a single day before. I always try to weigh myself at the same time every day (after waking, after my morning potty but before breakfast) to try to get a sense of how much I actually weigh. Even then, I fluctuate by 2-3 lbs all the time.
Maybe I just have a really crappy scale. |

1) It never hurts to call, and 3lbs in 3 days does sound like a lot to me. Of course, I am not really keeping track other than what I am weighed at the doctor's office, so I'm probably not one to talk.
2) I am 33 weeks and the "food demons" are subsiding (primarily because my stomach is shrinking). When I was in the 25-30 week range, I ate ALL THE TIME. I armed myself by going to work with sandwich baggies full of fruits and vegetables - carrots, cucumbers, green peppers, apples, watermelon, grapes, etc. Oh, and 100 calorie packs of other snacks. I probably ate 1 baggie per hour during the day. When I wanted something else (cupcake, ice cream, candy bar, etc.) that I hadn't brought with me, I made myself have a serving of fruit or vegetable and see if that made the craving subside. If it did not, then I indulged - it was either that or remain distracted for the rest of the day. |
I am the one who told her to call her doctor and I did say I didn't want to freak her out. I just prefer to be safe and for the record I am 22 weeks and I have only gained 4 pounds (not because I am not eating, but because I was not thin to begin with so I think I am losing weight elsewhere and the baby is gaining), so 3 pounds in 3 days is worthy of some consideration. |
| I'm 24 going on 25 this week - and I TOO have been eating like it's my full-time job! I ate 20 dark chocolate hershey kisses in a row - right after having a big lunch! Baby must be growing. On the other hand - I have only gained about 3-4 lb in the last 5 weeks (bringing me up to total gain of 23 so far)...but on a salty day I will bloat 3 lb by bedtime - and pee it all out by the next morning. if you feel like you are gaining too fast and it isn't water, it couldn't hurt to call the dr. just to be sure. |
| OP here, well, my doctor said that if I don't see spots I'm fine. I have my appointment on Monday anyway, but really the 3 pounds in 3 days wasn't my biggest issue. Its the overall weight gain and eating. almost 30lbs is a bit much when i've still got a ways too go! (i do weigh just in the morning and no problems with constipation). i really am not surprised about the weight gain because even though i promised to stop after dinner, I already had a peach, cherries and a bowl of cereal ending the day yet again at 2600 calories! i'm about to go take the dog for a walk, but i don't think that will mitigate damage control. i guess i'm just going to keep trying to make good choices and know that i better get a good exercise DVD for after I give birth!!! |

Not to worry. My rule is avoid bad stuff (sweets, fries, chips.... ) that are empty calories but the good stuff eat as much as you feel. Most of it will come with the baby or is easy to loose with exercise. If you stick to this rule you can forget the scale.
The bad stuff is really to avoid when pregnant or bfeeding as your body is in storage mode..... that extra chocolate bar will stay on your hips for a long time. |
