Parental consideration for privacy - too little vs. too much

This is why I have more than one screwdriver.

Seriously, there are way too many hangups on this board. There are no "off limits" places in our entire house - one for all and all for one. We respect privacy, but a little knock before you walk in is all it takes. If they're asleep and you come in to their room for something, they won't know what you saw anyway. You people are weird.

I'd be more worried about walking in on someone masterbating.

I go into my kids rooms all the time. I share a chromebook charger with my son (I'm a mom). I don't want to wake him every time I need it. the way I figure it is if you neeed privacy they will lock the door or use the bathroom.

This has got to be a symptom of the "safe space" era. Since when did we start walking on eggshells with our own children? I go into my kids' rooms in the morning all the time. Just today I went into DD's room to gather laundry. Yes, I saw bare boobs. But she was fast asleep and none the wiser. NBD.

I don't sleep in. I don't want to sleep in, but I love the quiet when my teen is sleeping in (maybe until 7:30, we're all early risers). Great time to get chores done, hence the need for the screwdriver.

+1. We've become way too sensitive.

We all sleep with our doors open and walk around in various states of undress. Who cares! My 15 year old walks around buck naked. Way too many uptight people.

+1. We're open door sleepers as well. Nobody intentionally looks into people's rooms, but there's also no hysteria if someone happens to be seen undressed. Growing up back in the 70s and 80s it was the same in my parents' household. Not sure when the human body became so taboo.

My first thought was- um I know multiple same sex parents that don't ONLY have same sex kids!

Only boys do that of course. Moms who are the only ones who can enter DD's bathroom know that their good girls don't engage in such a filthy selfish and unholy activity! After all most moms here have never done it either.

Like what? Is it not a legitimate question?

They really are. If you believe that your opposite gender parents could sexually abuse your child, take your child and get the hell out. Of course, for same sex parents, whatever will they do if they do if they have a child of a different gender.
