Has anyone successfully obtained Canadian Citizenship?

Because Justin Trudeau is better than the Orange Menace?

Yes, some people have.

You can take advantage of Canadian colleges if your kids are dual. My niece and nephew are as their father is Canadian. Both will go to college in Canada much cheaper.

You can take advantage of Canadian colleges even if you are not Canadian. You will pay more than Canadians but much less than what you would pay in the US.

But where could Trumpites have emigrated to?

Don't be too sure. After all no one thought he actually had a prayer of being elected.

A bunch of high school graduates are going to raise America's IQ? Who knew?

Wouldn't you rather pay Canadian rates ($2500-$5000 per year) than American rates ($15,000-$20,000)??

Agree with other posters that this is easy, so long as you have the paperwork. You don't need a lawyer.

If you were trying to get Canadian residency without a job or spouse or family connection, yes, it's a disaster (like the US). But if you grandfather was Canadian, then your mother IS ALREADY Canadian. She is just requesting a certificate of citizenship. I'm Canadian, and did this for my US-born son after he was born and I don't remember it taking any effort whatsoever. Probably took a few months before the certificate was mailed, and then we applied for and quickly got his passport too (a little more inconvenient, because you have to go to a specific photography studio to get Canadian passport photos).

As others said, they changed the rules a while back so the paperwork requirements are a little more onerous (but again, I dont' remember the new rules being hard - they must have been a breeze before) and also make it much harder to get citizenship for the kids of the born-outside-of-Canada-to-Canadian-citizen-parents.

Why didn't your friend just cross the border and demand it?

HOWEVER...US does not allow for dual citizenship after 18. Only Canada. It would depend on what type job she has i.e. Security Clearance etc. No pate answer...

I am married to a Canadian, my one child is dual and my one child is US. I am US. Depends.....on many things.

Even though you technically can't have dual citizenship, the US doesn't really pay attention and it is possible to claim citizenship of other countries.

The US does not recognize "dual citizenship". That doesn't mean that as a US citizen you cannot carry two passports and be citizens of two countries. "Dual citizenship" is a specific concept under the law.

OMG please do not turn this into a political topic. I never threatened to go anywhere. My mom is a Canadian by birth according to the rules (born to a Canadian dad, but here in the US) so I just want to get her the info she needs. Thank you for the helpful comments.

I have a good friend who did this this past fall, pre-Trump. Her husband was born American and a family physician, and that helped immensely because Canada needs them. My friend was dual UK and American which also may have helped.
