My wife is the biological mom of our son and I did a second parent adoption. This was before same sex marriage was federally legal. However, if we are lucky enough to have more children, I'd do it again. I agree with PPs who are saying that people sometimes change their minds if the couple divorces; however, a bigger concern would be if something happened with Trump's administration that caused federal same sex marriage to be repealed - if left up to individual states, not all states would continue to perform and/or recognize same sex marriage. Imagine being in a state where your marriage isn't recognized and not being allowed to see your child because you're not the legal guardian if he/she was hurt in the hospital.
All that said, we got all of the money back that we paid the lawyer by capitalizing on an adoption tax credit. |
