Are Costco checks legit? Do you buy them?

Is that really an issue? Has anyone else gotten checks from Costco?

Are they "legit"? are you really asking this question?

You think that a major big box retailer would offer a product like this and have it be "not legit"?

There is some discussion online that Costco checks don't have the same security features as a bank.

Yeah if my bank doesn't offer free checks forever I'm not using them. I only use about 20 checks a year. As soon as I can get my cleaners to use venmo, PayPal, I'll never have to write a chech again!

I use a lot of checks, because I don't carry cash.

I use checks for the following:
1) tutor
2) therapists
3) cleaning service
4) lawn care
5) doctor co-pays - even though I know they accept credit cards, I try to be cognizant of the fact that its expensive for especially small businesses to process them. So I write checks instead

Seriously? They'd prefer that you pay by credit card. It's much less work for them.

The biggest problem with Costco Checks is that it takes a month to deliver. No idea how long it takes for delivery of overpriced bank checks.

I've been using costco checks for years with no issue.

This site uses costco checks as an example of good security.

COSTCO checks are printed by the same printer that prints checks from my bank Harland Clarke

I got costco checks for about $0.03 each. The ones from the bank were almost 10 times as much. Still not a big deal but a bit of a rip off.

I only buy checks from Costco ever since I discovered how cheap they are. Never had a problem.

With mobile deposits and a relatively low volume of payments, I can totally see where office staff for a small business is able to process paper check payments without actually incurring additional costs while also saving the percent the card processors take.

We get our business checks from them. No issues.

Our personal account is with USAA and their checks are free.

Plus, it's the same company (Harland Clarke) whether I do it through the bank or through Costco.

What you read is not true. You can write a check on anything and the bank has to accept it. Write it on a pair of panties with lipstick. Its a valid check. Banks don't like this because it can't go through the automated clearing system, but they cannot refuse it.

If you’d have to include your account number and routing number so just write a check.

Well I know for a fact that Capital One 360 accounts will not accept checks that are not from Capital One. It's the only bank I've seen that does that.

Banks can’t do that.

You don’t need a check to be a “check”, either. If you have the routing number and account number and put all the right info on it you can present a “check” chiseled into a stone tablet. No one is required to accept it but if I accept it my bank has to process it for deposit. The FRB gets things like this every year.
