The problem with low SES middle schools -unfair!

I would send her to an inexpensive private school. I am a teacher and make next to nothing but I send my kid to a Catholic school. I would not be okay with her going to a school where her peers don't care about school. Even if you aren't Catholic, you can send your kid to a Catholic school.

I would be willing to drive her to the other school where all her friends are - it would be a much better fit for her but I know I can't do that - only the smart kids get to go to other schools where their needs are better met.

Just venting - it has been a hard transition for my child and I hate to see her so unhappy and unfulfilled.

In what way (s) was she not welcomed due to being white? How many practices did she attend before she stopped going?

Middle school is hell in the best circumstances, IMO. Be there for her, encourage her, but don't have such a chip on your shoulder about all this.

It does seem odd. It is cross country and softball season and all middle schools offer both (and cross country doesn't cut).

I'm at a DCC MS school with 24% WH; 40% HI; 17% BL. 46% FARMS. Lots of kids play basketball. My daughter plays - she's white. I don't see what that has to do with anything.

It may be that this is the first time that you have a team that has limits. But you can still do rec ball somewhere else.

If you expect it to be terrible, it will be terrible and your child will think it's terrible. I agree with the PP. You need to watch what you hope for, however, if you move to another school. It's a balancing act -- there are entitlement-problems at some schools that are difficult to avoid.
