Why can't parents use the kiss n ride lane properly?

Good grief. Even when my kids were in preschool, they knew how to unlatch their carseats. And, the preschool we attended did not allow the parents to get out of the car. Good policy.

Worst parent was one who skips the entire kiss and ride lane, cuts to the exit of kiss and ride, blocks everyone trying to exit while blocking buses from getting to their entrance. Arrrrgh.

End vent.

I went thru kiss and ride today and got out of the car and opened my trunk and got out my kid's REALLY HEAVY PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT BAG that he needs for band. He cannot carry it on to the bus b/c it is too heavy, nor can he get it out of the car or trunk without help.

Why don't you mind your own business.

Do you carry it all the way to his classroom for him? Otherwise not getting this. How does he manage it all the way to class? We have a tiny boy at our bus stop that manages his percussion kit on to the bus.

And honestly, it's everyone's business if you're doing it in a communal space like the drop off line. You're affecting other people. If you want people to mind their own business, park around the corner.

Sorry, but PPs are right. If your kid needs help getting it out of the car, you shouldn't be in K&R.

Kiss and ride destroys my meager faith in humanity on the regular. Thank god my kids take the bus 99% of the time.

Staff needs to be out there.

I see it at our school every day too. Crazy ass moms getting out of the car to get their 9 year olds out of baby seats and taking their time while doing it. PARK YOUR CAR, PEOPLE.

OMG MY HEAD JUST EXPLODED WITH YOUR STUPIDITY.

Seriously? Install a different car seat just for school drop off?

my kid COULD unbuckle his harness in K, but his door was child locked because he had hypoglycemic rages and we couldn't anticipate his unsafe maneuvers when they came on quickly. And also, none of your business. I dashed out of my seat, opened his door, he dashed out, end of story.

CUT THE EFFING JUDGEMENT. Seriously. You do not know everyone else's story.

Install a different car seat? Didn't say that... more likely let them sit in a seat that they can get out of. You shouldn't need to get out to open your kids door or get them out of their car seat if you're using kiss and ride. Period. You're not being safe and you're not demonstrating safety for your kid by getting out and going around to the other side in the kiss and ride line. All passengers should exit through the passenger side door and the driver stays in the car.

How nice for you that your kids didn't have fine motor delays.

I've laughingly offered to be the "heavy" at my kid's school.

I'm sure there are some circumstances which cause a longer than usual drop off time, but the large majority I've seen are things like the hairbrushing lady, and the ones who store their backpacks in the trunk for reasons unbeknownst to me, and the ones that have a 5 minute goodbye session. No, I don't know everyone's circumstances, but regardless of what they are, I think it's selfish to hold up the line to brush your child's hair or have a full-blown conversation with them.

I think those rates may be hereditary. Have a snickers.

Even if your kid can't unlatch the seatbelt, you can't twist around in your seat and do it for him/her? I am 5'2 and can reach the diagonal car seat buckle if I turn around in my seat.

I don't understand Hypoglycemic Rage Mom. Even if she has the child safety lock on, can't she just flip it off once she pulls to the kiss and ride line and it's a pretty sure thing that no rage is pending?

Anonymous wrote:OP,

Why are you using the kiss and ride? Why isn't your kid walking or on a bus? Just wondering. My kid has walked to school everyday or taken the bus for 5 years. We've used kiss and ride about 5 times in the last 7 years. Today was one time and it is a necessity because of the heavy instrument that cannot be taken on the bus and cannot be lifted by the child.

I find it strange that you feel the need to critique other people using kiss and ride (in my case due to necessity) when it seems your child has other options for getting to school (i.e. bus or walking). If kiss and ride is such an irritant to you, you have options. My kid does not.

Your kid has options too. Attend your neighborhood school.

Or, at least, stop patronizing others.
