First, it's not always spanish. Secondly, it takes adults MUCH MUCH longer to learn a language than kids. They may feel ashamed or self-conscious that they speak with an accent and are not easily understood. The OP is offering to have this family in their home- expanding their friendship circle and that helps them assimilate. How many ESL families have you reached out to and invited into your home? How are you helping THOSE people?
