Holt an unfair moderator

Unfair to Trump because he pre-selected three questions (taxes, comments about women, housing discrimination) that were Trump scandals, but did not pose one such question to Hillary (emails, Benghazi, other various scandals).

Discuss.

His career is going nowhere after this epic failure.

You must of been watching a different debate.

He did question Hillary about the emails. Trump brought it up first, but the Holt specifically asked Clinton about it. In all likelihood, Holt had a question about that but Trump beat him to it.

I think conservatives have a right to be skeptical here that Holt was about to be "even handed" given the MSM's bias toward liberals. But, setting that aside, best practices for a journalist here would be to introduce a topic "honesty" and in the same question reference both candidates weak points on that topic (there are enough to go around for both of these candidates) and then ask them to both address it.

Remember when Matt Lauer asked Hillary a couple of tough questions? His liberal comrades really condemned him. Holt was just protecting his job by following the cardinal rule of journalists: Thou shall not make the Democrat look like the lying, corrupt person he or she is.

He is safe. Matt Lauer is the guy who is in trouble. Here is how NBC moderate next time:

1. Never ever bring up that email shit again

2. Only ask questions about Trump - his words on women, his tax return, birther -- and when all else failed, ask about David Duke. Don't ask about Hillary's records, only Trump's words

3. Do a Candy Crowley every now and then and only use CNN, MSNBC, politico, politifacts or Huffington Post as fact check sources.

Eh, luck of the draw. Trump needs to be able to overcome a somewhat biased moderator. It's just how the world is. It's not fair, and you have to deal with it. Of all people he should know and understand this, because the opposite would be someone who asks for a booster to appear taller to negate a perceived inequality.

The moderators have a difficult job --in particular because Trump has a tendency to lie and change the subject. He skated through months of primaries without anyone seriously calling him on his 100 percent bullshit. The moderator has to at least try to get the candidates to answer the questions and keep them from talking over each other. Holt was actually very hands off and let them take a lot of unscheduled time to go off topic.

Trump had plenty of time and opportunity to make good points, but he was flustered and lost his temper. A candidate needs to be able to keep his or her cool in stressful situations.

After the debate, Trump praised Holt. 12 hours later on FOX, he was denigrating Holt.

Just can't figure Trump out. When my teens flip-flop like this, I call them immature, grow up, and get their $hit together.

He probably thought he did great, beautiful, until someone on his team told him how badly he sucked. Then he started looking around for someone to blame.

Haha

It was either holt or that microphone. Or both-can't make up his mind.

This is truly laughable.

Holy couldn't get a word in edgewise with trump just completely disregarding any debating rules.

Lol I think you're probably right. I actually thought Holt was largely a non-factor in the debate. There were times I thought he should insert himself more forcefully and get the candidates back on topic or let each other talk rather than talking over each other, but I can see why he would just want to stay out of the way.

Let's face it, Trump supporters are liking for someone to blame for their canidate's poor performance. Maybe the guy should, you know, actually prepare next time.

Anonymous wrote:Not a single person addressed OP's points on a substantive basis. Fact is, Holt did ask Trump several questions about scandals/gotcha (his tax returns). Yet, he did not ask Hillary questions about e-mails or any of her scandals. That was not even-handed, at all, in terms of selecting topics. If you're going to ask questions about things that are not on substantive policy topics than you have to ask the candidates evenly.

It was even handed considering she got raked over the coals at the pre-debate with Matt Lauer, remember? Not mention that she has been subject to far more rigorous questioning all along the way. And if you think the email and Benghazi stuff hasn't been done to death, I'll take some of whatever you're smoking.

If Clinton can get under Trump's skin with inuendo, using his own words against him, and birther revisited (and rightfully so), how in the world can Trump exercise control and diplomacy when he's called a bigot by a world leader or a son of a b**ch by Phillipines president? Is he going to scream for the box to punch in the nuclear codes?

Why is it when people are poor or sick or have bad circumstances, republicans say that life isn't fair and those people should take personal responsibility and pull themselves up by their bootstraps, but the world should be absolutely fair to Trump? Get over yourselves.

To be fair, they couldn't have anticipated a rigged microphone.

Rigged? No. Set up soit caught Trump inhaling? Yes would be interesting to see if compression was used. That was really odd - that coke was brought up? Desperate

We're not talking about the WORLD being fair to Trump. We are saying that a moderator should approach a modicum of objectivity, rather than lob one gotcha question after another to one candidate, and steering clear of questions addressing any the multitude of scandals of the other.

You realize the moderator is a registered republican, right?
