There was a recall for transmission issues for the 2014 models. I brought it in and it was fixed. I love my MDX, but I have two kids and rarely use third row. When kids were younger and we often needed back seat space for carpools, I had a minivan because acces to third row is much easier. Getting back to the transmission, I recently had a 2016 MDX as a loaner and didn't like the shifting at all. It seemed sluggish or sometimes shifted too soon. I would not get another for this reason. I couldn't wait t get back in my older 2014 model which seemed to have a better transmission. |

Thanks everyone, we are expecting our first child this spring.
I have an Acura now and I like it, which is why I was considering the MDX. We will consider other similar cars once we are ready to buy the car. Though I'd love a 3rd row, not sure I want to go the minivan route. |
| Volvo xc90 or x5 |
| Audi Q7 is so much better. |
Other than the higher maintenance costs, how is the Q7 a better vehicle? |
| we considered an upscale car like the MDX but honestly the Mazda5 had more of the features we wanted so we got that. |
- easier to drive - easier to get in and out - more space - easier on the gas |
| All I know is that I want one and will get one when I can afford it LOL. |
Last year, I bought a pre-owned 2009 with only 50,000 miles and absolutely love it! |
NP. About how much did that run (if you don't mind my asking since it's anonymous and all)? |
What about the RDX? I almost bought one of those but got the Audi Q5 instead. They seem comparable in size, and it's fine with two small kids, although we haven't had to carpool (yet). |
PP here. It was 22,800 and an end of summer purchase. They had lowered the price a bit. It's hard to find a car with low miles (at least, we thought it was low), and we'd been looking for about 6 months on the internet almost every day. It's in great shape, but we did have it checked by a local mechanic before we finalized the sale. Love how it drives! |
| We love ours. We also have the smaller Acura SUV - the RDX. Love it too. They're great cars that hold up really well and hold value. |
If you don't get the minivan now...you will probably consider it with your second child...once carpools, etc. start. One thing about minivan that is awesome is the automatic opening doors. Especially nice when you are dealing with carrying a baby in a car seat, diaper bag etc. Not a sexy vehicle, but then neither is parenting. |
