Why can't folks that send their kids to average colleges ever admit it?

The very definition of average. As bad as Michigan. Might as well just call it a day and become an auto mechanic.

My parents happily told anyone who asked that my sister and I went to SUNY Binghamton and Geneseo. I don't care about my kids going to Ivy schools. I care about them learning a lot and being successful and having fun.

DH and I are not braggy people.

Cost neutral. #24 vs #74. I question the family that would let an obviously naive kid make such a foolish decision. Teases out poor decision making and/or fear of competition.

One of the big issues with OPs statement is that there doesn't seem to be a clear definition of an "average" college as opposed to an "above average" college. OP, what's your definition of an "average" college? I'd say that the top 50 national universities (as ranked by USNWR) are above average. The same goes for the top 50 LACs. Would you accept that definition OP?

DS (27) went to Ole Miss. ROTC scholarship. Plus National Guard.
DS (25) went to Colorado. ROTC Scholorship
DD (24) went to Florida. National Merit Scholar. Full ride.
DD (21) at Georgia. Partial merit scholarship.
DS (17) High school senior. Wants to go to Florida. We'll see who offers the most money.

Super proud of all five. My oldest is married with a baby. They own a business together. He is also a Captain in the Army National Guard. My second is a Captain in the Army - 82nd Airborne. My third is a teacher in DC. My fourth is majoring in nursing. She wants to be a nurse practitioner. My youngest thinks he wants to be an engineer.

Average colleges. No student loan debt. Great kids.

Nursing, teaching, army? According to OP your kids are average.

Let me see if I understand this, you are complaining that parents refuse to state what average college their kids attend, which is none of your business. You have so much free time, extremely idle, that you typed your frustration about this on this forum? What normal person thinks like this? Oh my goodness. Where are from? What state? I feel so bad for your children. You don't get pick your parents at conception but your kids have it bad. Mom it's very important for you to keep this in mind, all colleges do is educate your child regardless of their rank. Colleges can't make your child successful. What your child does with that education is completely up to him/her. I've had the privilege of working with many CEOs that run many of the largest companies in the U.S. and very successful entrepreneurs, many of them attended average colleges. So you being so fixated on this issue is disturbing. If you focused this much effort on volunteering for meaningful causes like habit for humanity, Red Cross, Feed the Homeless,Battered women Shelters you won't be so worried about why parents chose not to share. Smh!

That is great indeed! Recognize, though, that for 99.5 percent of the bubbled up folks here, ROTC is not on the table for their kids.

Wow, well done, Mom and Dad! You have raised a smart and accomplished group of kids. Thank you for sharing their success!

It all depends on the major.

Graduating from college means you are above average - even if it is from a second tier state school.

You are merely underscoring the OP's point....

Any college that throws merit money at you is not "average", IMO.

Stony Brook grad here, and Binghamton and Geneseo are not average schools!

My kid is going to attend an above average school. Not what I would have hoped for, but plenty good.

oP, I would not defend his choice to the lies of you, defend his character to the likes of you, or stay in any conversation beyond a minute or two. I only say positive things about him in Public.

Why do you care so much about other people?
