That's not a very going area at night. I would stay on or near Broad Street. It's lively and will be an easy walk to most things. I would have no concerns walking around that area at night.

Are you saying the Hilton Garden Inn/Chinatown area is not good at night?

Has anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Midtown on Walnut St (or in that vicinity)? How was that area?
Thanks in advance.

The Convention Center/Chinatown area isn't bad or dangerous, it's just that when there's not a convention, there isn't much foot traffic at night and it can feel a little empty/dark walking around. I have never stayed at the Holiday Inn Express but it's close to City Hall and Broad Street, and there are a lot of hotels and theaters around there and lots of people out at all hours.

Center City Philly is very safe. Have a great trip!

Walnut St is pretty nice the whole way up and down. Last 2 times we've gone we found a good rate at the Ritz (on Broad, right near city hall), and it was a great location. Down by the water is nice too -- I think there is a Sheraton on 2nd (?) that is in a beautiful area. You also couldn't go wrong with anything near Rittenhouse Square. Have fun!
