It should be fine, but use common sense as you would in any urban area. I've stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn near Chinatown/the Gallery... at night it was dead quiet on the streets nearby when we were walking back after dinner and Capogiro
That's not a very going area at night. I would stay on or near Broad Street. It's lively and will be an easy walk to most things. I would have no concerns walking around that area at night.
Are you saying the Hilton Garden Inn/Chinatown area is not good at night? Has anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Midtown on Walnut St (or in that vicinity)? How was that area? Thanks in advance.
The Convention Center/Chinatown area isn't bad or dangerous, it's just that when there's not a convention, there isn't much foot traffic at night and it can feel a little empty/dark walking around. I have never stayed at the Holiday Inn Express but it's close to City Hall and Broad Street, and there are a lot of hotels and theaters around there and lots of people out at all hours. Center City Philly is very safe. Have a great trip!
