+3 Didn't give up anything prior to pregnancy. Once I got the positive result, I cut back to 1 cup of coffee per day and a few sips of wine 1-2 times a week. Most of the food restrictions are based on the risk of listeria and some are more evidence-based than others - it's worth doing the research to see what makes sense for you to avoid. |
| I actually STARTED using caffeine during pregnancy (I had given it up years earlier) because I had such terrible migraines, and caffeine was one of the few "drugs" ok to take. My neurologist suggested I start, and my OB was fine with up to 200mg/day. |

I cut back on alcohol and caffeine during the TWW because of some data indicating that excess of either may affect implantation. Someone might chime in and say that those data are equivocal. I figured it couldn't hurt and would only help, so why not? When not TTC or pregnant I have a glass of wine almost nightly and several cups of coffee a day... so probably not a bad thing to cut back for my health anyway.
Now that I am pregnant I am limiting caffeine to ~12 oz per day since that much coffee generally contains 150-200 mg caffeine depending on the source. I stopped when the nausea hit around 5.5 weeks and am just starting to want it again around 11.5 weeks... it's amazing! I will continue to avoid alcohol, at least until the very end when the baby is almost fully cooked. |
| I definitely did not give up deli meat, caffeine or alcohol while TTC. Nor did I give them up once I was pregnant. |

Ha. Gave up alcohol and caffeine before ttc #1. Gave up deli meat, soft cheese, and sushi after BFP.
#2, I gave up caffeine when ttc because the raging headaches + early pg woukd not have been a good combo! Gave up alcohol after bfp, continued eating everything else in moderation and from reputable sources all throughout pg (ob approved). |
