| We had a Samsung fridge that broke exactly 10-years after we bought it and the 10-year warranty lapsed. The compressor broke and could not be replaced. The tech said avoid Samsung and LG. During the time I owned it, I hated the freezer configuration because you could break the ice maker if you didn’t arrange the food a certain way. The fridge portion also didn’t seem spacious enough. |
| I have an LG which has been fine except for the ice maker and when I called to get it repaired the guy basically laughed at me and said I shouldn't have bought it because no one repairs those. |

I was debating between an LG and a Frigidaire (based on what was in stock).
The salesman convinced me to avoid LG and Samsung, so we went with the Frigidaire—which we love so much more than our prior GE. That said I do have some buyers remorse, as the Frigidaire has a design flaw that requires you to avoid having your refrigerated food touch the center, back of the fridge or risk freezing. I’ve had to throw out food as a result. So maybe there’s no perfect machine? |
| Samsung fridges are really terrible. Google “Samsung refrigerator ice build up.” You’ll see they have an issue with ice building up in the back and freezing up the fan. They’ve had this issue for at least 10 years and Samsung hasn’t bothered to fix it. Do not buy one. |

| Definitely not Samsung. Don’t know much about LG but Samsung sucks. I recommend Maytag or Kitchenaid |

Samsung appliances are crap. Their consumer electronics are great, but their appliances have major quality and reliability issues.
We're on our second LG fridge (Kenmore badged, but made by LG). I would not have gotten a second one, but it was one of the few models that fit into our smaller-than-average fridge space. The compressor on the first one only lasted 5-7 years; the current one makes a lot of funny noises but has worked okay so far. They would not be my first choice, but I did find that the interior finishing of the LG were higher quality than comparable GEs or Whirlpools. |
We were told by a repairman to keep our 20 year old fridge because the new ones break so easily. Basically, they are so "smart" and wired up that if one thing breaks or is not attended to (like the water filter), it shuts down the whole thing. Dumber is better

We have one of these and NEVER again. While the Kenmore appliances manufacture by LG are a little cheaper than getting the corresponding LG, one it isn't worth it. We got a high end Kenmore that was expensive, but a little cheaper than the same model by LG. What a hassle. We had a problem that the fridge stopped working. It was hard to find a repairman who would service the Kenmore. Many heard the model and said that they didn't service this as it needed an LG certified repairman. Got a repairman who was an LG certified technician who came out. It was a large component which was covered by warranty. The problem is that LG will pay for the replacement component (which was expensive, but still under warranty). But neither LG nor Kenmore would cover the cost of labor and the two visits (one to come and diagnose, second to come after the component was ordered to install). If it was an LG, the would have covered the cost of a replacement under warranty. So we did didn't have to pay for the component, but we spent more on the labor to repair the component than we saved on the fridge to begin with. Plus the hassle of finding a repairman who would service it, plus being out a fridge for about 4 weeks. We are lucky that we had a second fridge, but it got old having to go down and get everything from the basement. |
Um, it's a South Korean company, not Japanese. |
| Our Samsung fridge is 11 years old and running fine. Should I buy a lottery ticket (because I'm clearly lucky) or start researching fridges (because I'm on borrowed time)? |
Yep, definitely start playing the Powerball. Samsungs have a terribly history of not only dying but also dying spectacularly (spoiled food, washer/dishwasher flooding and causing extensive water damage, etc.).

| I miss my LG fridge every day. So much better than my current GE, despite all the reviews that say otherwise. GE is loud and frequently freezes my food. Regretting not repairing the LG that was good for 9 years. |
GE got bought out by Haier a few years ago, and their quality has tanked. We looked at a GE when we bought a fridge in 2019, and the interior plastic was not very flexible/durable and a lot of the reviews mentioned the water/ice dispenser panel coming loose from the front. It's a shame because the prior owners of our house left us a 1992 GE fridge in the basement, and it was still in great shape and running perfectly when we gave it away. (We had a second fridge already and had expected them to take it as it wasn't listed as conveying.) |
