There's a good chance your kid has recess with lunch and then a second recess in the afternoon. I'm in a different county but that's the way they did it with kindergarteners. Grades 1-5 only had one recess.

My guess is that was the only way to work it and get everyone squeezed in. I actually like the idea of having it that way--two short breaks instead of just one.

I have one in K and one in an upper grade. My kids' MCPS ES has K recess and then lunch, from 11-12, and then another recess 1:45-2:15. The other grades only get one recess, backed up before or after lunch. When *I* was in K in MCPS 30+ years ago, we didn't get two recesses because we only went to school for half a day! I'd gladly go back to that.
