Leckie does as well on the PARCC as Francis-Stevens, Powell, and lots of other schools with longer waitlists, it's convenient for my commute, and it outperforms my IB school. You get 12 schools in the lottery--might as well use them all.

Those scores may drop. the Bolling airbase kids attend Leckie which gives it some diversity but they have now lobbied for their own school and once those families pull out I am not sure Leckie will be much better than other DCPS schools in Ward 8.

And if that happens, I can do the lottery again. Or my kid may be in middle school by the time the charter opens.

Or you could have your child go with them. 50% of seats will be for non-military families. http://www.dcpcsb.org/military-families-get-greater-public-school-options

The bio on the school site is full of superlatives. Patterson Fellow mentor, Rubenstein Award, Green School, 3 year contract.

Too good to be true? What about scores?

Yeah, but that's the case in most DC schools.

We'll why aren't those principals out?

The other principals are not out because it is not likely that teacher complaints contributed to the principal being placed on leave.

Exactly! DCPS is aware of ILLEGAL things principals have done to (and with) teachers, but they remain.
DCPS' leadership started the national 'Blame the Teacher' movement. They could care less how teachers are treated. And that shows by the revolving door of teachers. Atasha James could've been taped beating a teacher & not received even a warning. It's unlikely she's on leave because
'The help' complained.

Unfortunately, intimidation & harassment of teachers is the culture in DCPS.

A lot of horrible principals have been given the boot but many remain. Hopefully this changes under the new Chancellor & principals will realize they cannot act lawlessly as if the school is their own personal wild Wild West.

Name your list of schools with allegedly horrible principals, or you're just blowing hot air and over-generalizing. Which specific schools have such awful principals and WHY do you say they're horrible?

Are you one of those vindictive principals and are worried that people may know it?

Say it or it didn't happen is 5 year old logic. ADULTS know how the workplace goes. And everyone knows employees don't leave bad jobs; they leave bad managers. Look at the numbers that leave DCPS ALL year every year.

There are plenty on previous posts on DCUM of bad principals and in the news or on other not DCUM blogs. In fact you can still find a whole blog post of the shenanigans of one current principal. Often the principals are moved around from school to school, or even after grade tampering given a promotion!!!!

Which ones?

Two pages in and still no insight into why DCPS took an unusual move and placed this principal on leave. It must've been something that would've been a fireable offense in other, more functional school systems because DC never censures their principals-even for years of reprehensible treatment towards teachers.

Again maybe this is evidence that with the change in leadership at the top there will be a change in the BS

Were you talking about Instructional Superintendent David Pinder and the grade tampering charges while he was a principal at McKinley? What did the investigation reveal after he was placed on leave?

She is/was a rising star. Lots of street cred with families and other administrators. Given a lot of leeway in Central Office with choices for her school, part of having a 3-year contract. DCPS even put her face on a bus last year in their ad campaign. Something doesn't seem right.

A lot of those 'rising stars' with lots of leeway from Central Office start feeling themselves and begin to think they're invincible and can do what the hell ever they want to teachers because they have Central Office backing & support.
