Grand Tetons/ Jackson hole and then do a dude ranch. We did this last year with our 3 kids and it was the experience of a lifetime

We did a trip several years ago starting with the Beartooth Highway, then Yellowstone through the NE entry, then drove up to Bozeman and onto Glacier. It was a great trip. We were pre-kids but the driving wouldn't be too much, I don't think.

Can you tell us which Dude ranch you picked? I always want to do this but, can't decide on which dude ranch to pick! What did you like best about it and what didn't you like? Thanks!

Thinking of going to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons and doing the rafting in Jackson hole in the summer. Any recommendations for the dude ranch?

I'd recommend Yellowstone and Grand Teton, but I haven't been. Going tomorrow, though! I think these two parks, or Glacier National Park, might be next on your list! (they are ajacent to each other so it's easy to do both). These are the NPs for the animals (and YS for the geysers, too).

Also...OP if you haven't been to Yosemite, well, than that's sort of a no-brainer. It's incredible. But it's more of a hiking place than YS/GT, although the hiking in GT is supposed to be amazing.

Love Grand Teton, just make sure money's no object. I think it's probably the most expensive domestic vacation destination.

I've done this, so fun! (but we didn't do the dude ranch part). We've also done GC, Bryce and Zion.

OP, this is what I'd do if I were you...go to Yosemite next. You will love it! But the reason i put it first is because after Yellowstone, you'll think, ok, I can't top that.

Now that is to say, I thought Yellowstone was fascinating in a Mr. Spock kind of way. Yosemite and Grand Teton are both something to fall in love with.

I am the OP... just FYI -- I wrote this question in Aug. 2016! As a result of the advice I received here, I booked a trip to Yellowstone/Grand Tetons for Aug. 2017.

We had a great time.

So, you aren't responding to me at this point. But, if others have similar questions, by all means, go ahead and carry on!

Only if you make it so. I bet you would spend much more flying to Hawaii and staying at a resort than we did flying to Jackson (cheaper if you fly to SLC) and saying at the Cowboy Village Resort for maybe $175 a night.

i'm the one who pulled this thread from oblivion... Did you do the dude ranch? If yes, which one. Currently I am looking at flying to SLC and then spending most of the time in Yellowstone, some time in Grand Teton and then a day rafting in Jackson Hole.... and a day in SLC. Total time - a week, maybe a few more days

We did a week, but no dude ranch. We were in Yellowstone for the first half of the week, and Grand Tetons for the second half. Loved both. The food in YS is terrible! We kayaked and biked and took a float trip and hiked in Grand Tetons. The ferry on Jenny Lake is a MUST do. We saw a bear (too close for comfort) on the hike back from the waterfall.

Yellowstone is all about the geological formations (stunning) and the wildlife (glad we took the yellow bus tour so we could pay attention without stressing on the driving/steep drop offs). Grand Tetons is all about being ACTIVE.

Great vacation.
