+2 I realize Portia came first, but if I heard it out loud, I would think of the car first. It's an aggressively ugly name, classic or not. Does he like the Shakesperean reference? Does he like cars a lot and found an acceptable one to use? Mercedes is better, in that case. Ramona Quimby had a doll named Chevrolet.

| My first thought was Shakespeare too. |
| I just picture Portia de Rossi. |
| Sounds like an Eastern bloc hardcore pornstar |
|
Is the car company named after Portia? I never made that association before.
I do like Portia. |
I don't like it- I think it sounds pretentious. Everyone has difference tastes though-- I like traditional English names or Irish/Scottish names. |
| Yuck |
|
It's a nice name if you don't mind that its Latin meaning is pig.
But I agree with PPs that you each should have veto power over names you truly hate. |
| dont like. |
| What's the name you had agreed upon? |
|
How about Mercedes?
It was also a common name (the love interest in the Count of Monte Cristo) that because a car brand. |
That would be porcus. |
^ became a car brand |
|
Nope, sorry. Don't give up!
Pretty much any other Shakespearean name is better. I like Imogen, but that's another hate it or love it name. Beatrice? |
|
I really like Portia! I don't see it as trashy at all, it's a classic name that's under used I think.
But if you don't like it, you don't like it. What was the other name? |
