no, they are crazy expensive at garden centers. Giant sometimes has them on sale. Ikea has them cheap. Home depot/Lowes or whatever. They might need a little more tender loving care, or a bigger pot (buy a cheap one at Marshals or TJ Maxx), but you'll still end up saving $$.

+1. A good tree would be $$$ at a garden store.

NP-I've been looking everywhere for a fiddle leaf fig. I advise you to read carefully if buying online, as many have a fairly hidden statement that the ones they are selling are actually synthetic.

I got a small one at Home Depot for $5 last year and have really enjoyed watching it get bigger. Mine actually has figs on it this year which I didn't think would happen to indoor plants. Home Depot has larger ones for about $40 or so. Mine is really resilient because I have a black thumb and don't remember to water it often.

Because they're incredibly hard to move, large houseplants often end up on Freecycle or community yard sale groups on Facebook. I'd also look on Craigslist, not just in the household furnishings section but also in the Moving Sale/Yard Sale section.

People on our listserve advertise free houseplants frequently. I'd suggest you look at a local listserve.

My best two houseplants were bought on sale at Giant. I've had them for 2 years now. They're pretty big. Just make sure you pay attention to the sunlight requirements. I also have 2 awesome citrus trees I got on clearance from Harris Teeter!
