St. Thomas

Then why does it matter what DCUM thinks?

The property itself was lovely, but the staff was horrible.

It has excellent reviews on Trip Advisor - https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147405-d648828-Reviews-Marriott_s_Frenchman_s_Cove-Charlotte_Amalie_St_Thomas_U_S_Virgin_Islands.html

It was not my experience, but it depends what you're used to I guess.

OP is a Marriott timeshare owner, so this is probably what she is used to. I'm sure she'll have a good time.

Wow, I think this wins the snottiest and most passive aggressive comment on DCUM for the day. Congratulations on your achievement.

OP back again. Thanks all for the comments. Yes, we are used to the Marriott timeshares and we do enjoy them. Otherwise we would not be owners.

We are on a budget and are fine with the lovely 2 bedroom villa with a full kitchen (so we can eat breakfast & lunch in the room - we only go out for dinner) and a washer/dryer so we can pack light. We will have a balcony with I'm sure a gorgeous view of the water. We are happy to relax by the pool or sit on the beach for the majority of the time. We were hoping to not have to rent a car. We may take the ferry over to St. John but mostly just want to relax.

We are not looking for top notch accommodations and amenities, or high end restaurants and expensive activities.

I guess there's something for everyone. Have fun, OP!

It sounds like you've found a vacation that meets your needs. Don't worry about what the other DCUMs think.

+1. OP, your only mistake was posting here. You will have a very nice trip. Enjoy!

+1. You will have fun, don't worry! I've been to both islands and while I prefer St John, for what you are looking for St Thomas more than fits the bill. Magen's Bay is beautiful. Red Hook is a great spot to grab lunch or dinner if you head over there to catch a ferry to St John or the BVI. St John is easy to visit on a day trip- there are plenty of taxis on the other end to take you to the north shore beaches. Before catching the ferry back, head to the Beach Bar for a lime 'n coconut (I'm thirsty just thinking about it!).

You'll have a great time, OP. Just be aware that the water at Frenchman's Reef can be a little rough. I stayed there on a week-long business trip several years back. It probably depends on the time of year, but when we were there it didn't look swimmable.

You'll have fun OP. We stayed there many years ago and it wasn't bad at all. The grounds are lovely and we spent our time going between the pool and beach (water was somewhat rough if I recall). Take a cab across the island to Magen's Bay for a day trip - water might be calmer there. Skip the touristy areas of Charlotte Amelie and you'll be fine. We did the kayak/ snorkel trip that we booked through the hotel and it was really a lot of fun. You can also do a day trip via fast ferry to the BVIs which has some spectacular beaches - lots of things to do.

"Skip the touristy areas". Last time I checked OP will be a tourist there just like the rest of you proud of your more "authentic" experiences. Did you work at a hotel, raise kids at at John? Ridiculous.

Have you been to St Thomas? There's a whole section in Charlotte Amalie devoted to cruise ship passengers. It's generic and tacky, and overwhelmed with cruise ship passengers when a boat is there.. Better options include Frenchtown and Red Hook.

Tourists coming off a cruise ship are inferior to tourists staying in a timeshare on the island?

Hey not tourist coming on a plane wants to be confused with one coming on a ship. The latter is soo much more touristy. Duh!

Well there is a cruise type of tourist. En masse they are undesirable.
