OP back again. Thanks all for the comments. Yes, we are used to the Marriott timeshares and we do enjoy them. Otherwise we would not be owners. We are on a budget and are fine with the lovely 2 bedroom villa with a full kitchen (so we can eat breakfast & lunch in the room - we only go out for dinner) and a washer/dryer so we can pack light. We will have a balcony with I'm sure a gorgeous view of the water. We are happy to relax by the pool or sit on the beach for the majority of the time. We were hoping to not have to rent a car. We may take the ferry over to St. John but mostly just want to relax. We are not looking for top notch accommodations and amenities, or high end restaurants and expensive activities.
It sounds like you've found a vacation that meets your needs. Don't worry about what the other DCUMs think.
+1. You will have fun, don't worry! I've been to both islands and while I prefer St John, for what you are looking for St Thomas more than fits the bill. Magen's Bay is beautiful. Red Hook is a great spot to grab lunch or dinner if you head over there to catch a ferry to St John or the BVI. St John is easy to visit on a day trip- there are plenty of taxis on the other end to take you to the north shore beaches. Before catching the ferry back, head to the Beach Bar for a lime 'n coconut (I'm thirsty just thinking about it!).
