Anyone else notice that the new Bell & Evans chicken sold at Whole Foods Tenleytown smells rancid

I've never had a problem with whole foods chicken. However, I would never buy chicken from Giant. Even the newish, giant Giant on Wisconsin Ave. sells gross meat.

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like this chicken from bell and Evans. Don't like the packaging and the chicken is always too chewy when I cook it. But that's WFs only option for breast meat that's not tenders. Bummed

Mine smelled fine the next day, but I never let chicken sit 2-3 days, after purchasing. After 24 hours I cook it or freeze it.

But I am sad too to see the WF store meat go. Very foolish move because IMO, the store's true anchor products are the meat and produce. So why change the meat. I hope I am not forced to quit shopping there. I am glad OP posted so I will be more careful checking the meat.

WF chicken becomes smelly very fast sometimes within 24 hours in the fridge. I do not but chicken from there at all.

I have not had any issue with the milk or eggs there though.

My go to place for organic chicken is Costco now.

The new packaging is awful. That little tab that is supposed to bend back so you can peel off the top does not peel back. I end up using a knife to cut open the plastic. I'm deeply annoyed and pondering switching to Mom's or Maple Avenue Co-op.

Does anyone know where I can buy free range, organically fed chicken in NW DC other than the new plastic vacuumed crap they have at Whole Foods?

Yuck. I buy fresh local chicken from Common Market in Frederick. It's more expensive but we only eat it once or twice a week. Those of you who live in DC, can you try a farmers market?

The Bell and Evans chicken from Balduccis is also disgusting crap.

I just used some chicken thighs, and I agree--the packaging is impossible to open, and the meat smells terrible. Not buying that chicken again.

Not only does it look unappealing in the store's display cabinet, it smells awful when opened.

Will not buy again.

Anonymous wrote:I refuse to buy chicken from Whole Foods in the new packaging. Vacuumed packed anything always smells and tastes of plastic. Plus, there's no telling when the chicken was fresh, even though it says when it was packaged/sealed on the label. It's all about extending the shelf life of the product, nothing to do with customer convenience as stated on the advertising sign explaining the new packaging.

If we all stop buying chicken packaged this way, Whole Foods will have to resort to the old packaging.

I'm in this camp too. I drove way out of my way to go to Harris Teeter today because I wanted to buy chicken and avoid the new packaging at WF.

Yes, just opened up a package of chicken thighs and there's a bad smell.
