Dreading family get together

OP again. Thanks for all the suggestions-they were really helpful. I stayed in my "anthropologist" role the whole weekend and was able to stay detached (felt annoyed periodically but was able to mask it). Of course, there was drama (with all the egos on that side of the family there usually is) but I wasn't involved-I just listened and observed. My son really enjoyed playing with his cousins and the other kids in the family-that was nice and I'm glad for his sake that we went.
