Paintball guns are nonlethal, rubber bullets are nonlethal, pepper guns are nonlethal. Nonlethal gun is descriptive, it's not an oxymoron.

Which of course makes you wonder what he would have done if he could have gotten his hands on a semi-automatic weapon.

Yep - it would have been exactly like Aurora.

Good thing some countries have tough gun laws.

That is NOT what CBS is reporting. They are saying:

A German tabloid newspaper reported Thursday that a gunman opened fire at a movie theater near the city of Frankfurt.

Bild, and other local media in the region, reported at least several injuries after a masked man entered the complex and began shooting.

German police said only that there was a "threat situation" at a movie theater which probably involved a weapon.

Newspapers, including the widely-read Bild, reported about an hour after the story broke that the suspect had been taken into custody by police, but speaking earlier to the Associated Press, police spokeswoman Christiane Kobus said she couldn't give further details of what was happening at the Kinopolis movie theater in the town of Viernheim, about 30 miles south of Frankfurt.

Norbert Schaetzle, a spokesman for police in the nearby city of Mannheim, said the police force there was not directly involved in the incident, but had sent officers to support their colleagues in the town.

According to what I see on Twitter, the gunman was killed by police and his weapon was an "alarm gun" which is something with which I am not familiar. But, it sounds a bit like a starter pistol.

+ more. I am from Europe. a well organized terrorist organization may get weapons anyway, but it must be well organized and thus susceptible to be found and defeated. in my country and I guess in Germany, a random crazy cannot get up in the morning and buy high capacity magazines and assault weapons. random crazies in the US can do that any day, and we see the results. oh, I forgot, even people on the FBI list of suspected terrorists can buy them, let's not violate their sacred 2 amendment rights. I can't believe we are even having this discussion and how dumb some people in the US can be.

The average person in the US cannot just "wake up any morning and buy an assault weapon". Perhaps, just like in your country, a well organized terrorist organization would have access to these, but really... A random crazy in the US doesn't have access to walk into a gun store and just buy a weapon. Don't be stupid. They MAY pass a background check, but you can't walk into a dollar store or walmart and just purchase guns willy nilly.

Do we need better check? YES, we do, but don't be dramatic or disparaging.

Yup. I first became aware of this when 'Merica elected George W - twice. Then after not doing a god darn thing after Sandy Hook. Most recently by electing Trump as the presumptive R candidate. Makes you think twice about bringing children into this world.
