If you're concerned most about the best deal, then www.babycheapskate.com lists the best diapers and wipes deals online and in store on a weekly basis on their blog.
Alternatively, get Amazon Family/Amazon Prime and use subscribe & save to get 20% off every month. GREAT deal. Or buy Target diapers which are slightly cheaper, I think they offer a 5% off if you do their version of subscribe and save and an additional 5% off if you have a Target RED card. The Costco branded diapers are store branded Huggies. They are exactly the same - even the pattern is very similar but in different colors. Huggies didn't fit my DD well, so we never bought these, but they are a good deal considering. For wipes - we use Amazon Elements on Subscribe & Save because my DD has really sensitive skin. The Costco wipes are the BEST deal out there but they have some stuff in them that don't work for my DD. |

I use cloth most of the time (Bum Genius for ~3 months and up, or Kissaluvs+Thirsties covers for newborns), but I like the Target disposables when I use those. I use them for nighttime use sometimes, as well as travel and when cloth isn't convenient. Bigger upfront investment but the cloth are on round 2/second child and will probably still have some useable life left to allow me to resell them. I also have some cloth overnight diapers for the older babies.
For wipes I like the Huggies Naturals and buy those at Costco. I don't like Costco or Target wipes for some reason, but I can't remember what it was. Flannel cloths and water or water+castille soap works well, too, if you want to save money, but they aren't great for newborns. I really disliked the Pampers Swaddlers. For some reason they seemed to smell really, really bad when wet. I also hated the Cruisers and LUVS, but forget why now. Maybe the smell on those, too. Seventh Gen also sucks. |
But they smell horrendous. |
+1 |
Really? I've never noticed a smell to them, and I've used them with 2 kids. |
You will get an email each month asking you to check your subscriptions. Amazon gives you a few days to make any changes or you can go in and make the change once your LO moves into a new diaper. I suggest doing this. My mom sends me diapers through Amazon and I have a box I can no longer use. I got her blessing to donate it to the diaper bank, but it's a pain to ship back. Changing a subscription is easy. |
Is this true?? We use costco diapers now, and hated huggies! Granted we tried huggies when DD was size 1 and didn't switch to costco until size 3, so maybe her shape changed? |
Pro tip: the Amazon open box deals (outer cardboard packaging is damaged, but diapers and inner plastic seal is intact) equal out to the same price as the subscribe and save. DD flew through newborn - size two diapers, so we bought them one case at a time this way. |

We used Pampers for most of the first year, and then switched to Target brand. They've been great. Will probably use Pampers again for the first few months for #2 and then will switch to Target again there too.
I use cheap wipes from 7th generation. They are thin, which I actually really like. Some wipes are so big and wet, I almost find them annoying to use. |
Didn't like the 7th generation wipes. Really wanted to, but they were rough and dry. Use babyganics now, but huggies natural and the Amazon brand are good too. |
Easily. I also do prime (pampers). I like they they come to our door - I never worry about running out. I just ordered the Amazon wipes for the first time. |

I've gotten some GREAT deals thru amazon mom and prime on Pampers. I've gotten several boxes this past year that came to 50% off retail. The prime subscription has already paid for itself.
I didn't care for the Up&Up brand. They seemed super flimsy and I ended up changing them more often to avoid blowouts. So even though they were cheaper per diaper, I ended up going through the diapers quicker and I just don't think it really saved much, if anything, from the Pampers which I LOVED. |
| The overall convenience and joy of having them arrive on my monthly (subscribe and save) Amazon order negates the few bucks I might be saving by doing something else. Seriously, if you are going back to work, this option makes your life SO much more fabulous...and, you can get TP, Paper towels, kleenex, cleaning products, the off toy for a kids bday party (if you have your shit together) all in one big fat box one x per month....no saturday (or worse, Tuesday) "oh, Shit, I have to run to target..." |
I posted this -- it was true three years ago when I had my first DD. I compared them side by side and it was very obvious that they were the exact same diaper. I haven't compared recently, so maybe they've changed manufacturers? |

We used pampers swaddlers for sizes N-2 (free from baby showers/hospital) and then switched between Target brand, Walgreens brand and finally settled on Luvs. Also used some 7th Generation in there and possibly a pack of huggies (personal opinion on Huggies is that they fit chubby babies w/ REALLY big butts/thighs, not skinny babies).
Used Luvs mainly for size 3-4 then potty trained before we made it to size 5. Used Pampers Easy-ups for training, size 2T/3T. Almost all of the diapers we used (with exception of Target and Walgreens brands) were purchased through Amazon S&S. Priceless value to have them show up at your door instead of having to go get them! |
