You can legally have your gender changed without undergoing a single medical procedure. Changing one's genitals is not required. If this bothers you, and clearly it does, move to Russia.

No, that has never been the case. Sex always refers to biology. Gender concerns identity & expression, expressed culturally/socially.

When people used to ask about our baby's gender when I was pregnant seven years ago, I would joke (if I knew the person well enough to say this), "his sex is male, but he'll let us know his gender when he figures it out."

That's because transgender makes more sense than being gay. I firmly believe gay people were simply born the wrong gender. Once transgender becomes socially accepted almost all gay people will change genders.
