Pls recommend a Sea Colony alternative

Long Beach Island, Manasquan, Spring Lake, Avon, Cape May would be good places to start looking. My husband and I had a house in Manasquan for the summer pre-kids and it never took longer than 3 1/4 hours to get there - we just waited until about 7:30 on Friday to leave. We've done LBI and Cape May with big groups of some couples, some families and both of them were very family friendly.

Around Memorial Day, my family always rents a house that is quite near Sea Colony. While the beach was narrow a few years back, this year it was VERY wide!

Just wanted to say that a few years ago, Sea Colony had a horribly narrow beach and people would basically start moving in on your space if you dared leave your chair (we actually has someone basically half sitting under our umbrella and I saw a few arguments break out over space).

But last year they did a beach replishment and now the beach is much wider. We had no problems with crowding at all.

Been going to Fenwick Island the last 3 years. Stayed at a condo with 2 families (8 of us) at a condo in Kings Grant - there's a pool for the complex and a private beach. LOVED it! The other family can't go this year and we're actually looking for alternatives for a smaller place (for 4) for a long weekend this year (in case anyone reading this has specific suggestions). The only complaints I have are that the beach seemed very pitched toward where the waves break so the waves break hard on the beach - we were afraid to let our young children by the water alone - strong undertow. The other thing is - late in the afternoon and toward dark fishermen will drive right onto the beach with their trucks. But we were always gone before they got there so it wasn't an issue for us. Not sure if they allow that at Bethany or any of the other place. Beach never even close to crowded. I believe the rental company was Long & Foster.

We stay at Dewey Beach. During the week it is not crowded. The weekends do get busy with younger crowd, but during the week it is great. The beach has just been replenished and is very big. You can take Jolly Trolley into Rehobeth, kids love it!

I grew up in Delaware so I'm sort of old school and prefer Rehobeth, Dewy and Fenwick. There are so many more places that you can walk to (whether you want to eat. shop or go to FunLand). That said - Sea Colony is okay if you are set on Bethany, and I'd def. choose over Bear Claw (unless golf is something you will be doing every day). My friends father lives in Bear Claw and we go there every summer for a day or two, but I always can't wait to leave. No charm, must drive everyplace, and the houses are new but super cheap and there are hundreds of them and not much else.

EXTREMELY familiar with Cape Cod -for the earlier posters: If you leave early AM and avoid rush hour in NYC, it makes a big difference. At least you will be moving, not sitting in traffic so much. Do a night in NYC if you really want to.
If we had to walk, it would still be New England for us. OBX seems dumpy to us, and the other places mentioned seem too crowded. NE- or even just the Cape itself, has a different feel no matter where you go. It doesn't hurt that it's too far for most traffic jaded Washingon people

We were at Sea Colony last week and while there are a lot of people there...I don't think it is crowded. i think if stay in the Edgewater house area it is crowded but if you go to the pools and beach at the other buildings there are less people there.

Bear trap is nice but it takes quite a while to get to the beach.

In my opinion you cannot beat Sea Colony
