I didn't know about the BPA in cans. Yikes.
OP, we used Similac (because it was the only organic available where we were living at the time) and then switched to Safeway brand (because it's cheaper and it didn't occur to me that there was any other difference). I know I'm supposed to be freaking out about the BPA, but I just don't have the energy for one more _possible_ exposure that is _potentially_ hazardous. Do I sound like one of the grandmas who says "Well, when you kids were little, we put you to sleep on your stomach, didn't use car seats and smoked like chimneys in the nursery and you're fine, so what's all the fuss?" I am careful about what he eats and plays with, but honestly, there is only so much control one has over the environment and I have enough stress just trying to keep him from possible exposure to scissors and soap... |
| 10:02 here. PP, I couldn't agree more. I am so busy trying to keep DS from so many dangers--I'm exhausted! A few months ago even I would have been freaking out. But DS is now 18 mos and off Earth's Best for 8 mos. He's hilarious, and sweet, and smart--I'm tempted to obsess about this, but I just can't. I feel ya! |
Not sure if this poster is around, but I'm wondering what the issues were w/Nestle. We're about to start supplementing with formula and pedi recommended GoodStart. |
|
we're using Similar Organic as a supplement to BF. I'm using that brand b/c DS had the regular Similac in the hospital, so I figured it was probably pretty comparable, in terms of minimizing potential allergic reactions or anything. Baby's been fine with it.
I also read something on-line raising some questions about a batch of Earths Best Organic. THis was an unsubstantiated parent BB chat somewhere, so I don;t even know that it was true. Something about quality control, that some nutrient was off in some specific batch and needed recalling. Again, I didn't verify whether true, so I don't want to alarm anyone. |

Interesting - can anyone confirm this?
In checking out Earth's Best, as a result of this post, I came across some information that suggests that Earth's Best Formula is manufactured by PBM Nutritionals http://www.pbmnutritionals.com/ which is the same company that manufactures the Walmart Brand Parent's Choice Organic Formula. The labels are almost identical and I suspect any differences are just the way the ingredients are worded. If that is the case and the formula is the same, it would be about 1/2 the cost at Walmart. Crazy. |
| I use Similac Organic. DB is 5 months old and has no problems with it. |
| bm, warm, fresh, yummy and straight out of the oven. Can't beat it. |
then I would assume that there is no "organic" formula. Where did you get this crock of info. so not true. Why is someone so concerned about organic if not willing to bf, seems like an oxymoron to me. |
Why did you respond to this when you clearly don't have an appropriate response? You know, not everyone can breast feed, and many of us feel horrible about it. I had a massive infection that I could have died from after I had my baby. I continued to BF because I knew it was best for my baby and I wanted that experience for myself more than anything in the world. It put me in the hospital for a week and on antibiotics for five months. I had green and bloody pus draining out of my breasts for a good month, but still, I feel like a failure for having to stop. So, why don't you just can it and appreciate the fact that you got to breast feed and stop making others feel bad about their unique situations? |
Agreed. As long as you're feeding your baby, it really doesn't matter how he/she is being fed. Totally off topic, but I get the same guilt trip about having a c-section. There is no need to make people feel inadequate about how their child was birthed/fed/etc. Until you know why someone has to formula feed, please don't make them feel like they're doing something that is 2nd best. It's totally not true. |
You know what else you can't beat? You know what's healthier for a child than breast milk? A considerate parent who doesn't try to make others feel bad about themselves. I pity you. |

Whenever I see a breast milk troll piping up in threads that are clearly about formula, I immediately suspect that the breast milk troll is so insecure about herself and her parenting abilities that all she has to cling to is "Well, at least I breastfeed."
I can't tell the difference between a child who is breastfed and one who wasn't. Ditto on children who were born vaginally versus c-section. Anyone who claims otherwise is a liar or is delusional. |
