Southern Belle Beauty Tips

I think the trick will be not making it look "country." That picture reminds me of my TX niece and all of her friends (that girl could easily be wearing a cowboy hat with that outfit). Saw tons of the same look in Nashville last week.

For me, Modern Southern means long hair with loose curls. Subtle extensions if you must. Lots of mascara but never clumpy. Eye definition is achieved with well-blended shadow, not eye liner. Pink lip. Clothing is preppy-quirky with a lot of feminine touches a la Kate Spade. Lace, circle skirts, crisp white shirts. And for some reason, statement necklaces are Still A Thing.

With a little research and enough confidence, you can fake anything.

JCrew, Vinyard Vines and Tory Burch are definitely NOT southern. Let's face it, in reality even the southerners don't want to dress like a southerner.

DH is southern, I'm not. Here are somethings I've noticed from being in the south and my very southern sil:

- always styled hair
- always wearing makeup.amount differs based on the person but it's always pretty significant
- have a tan or at least some color. Some northerners seem to have pride in pasty white skin, but it's rare among southern women. Fwiw I ghostly pale
- wear color, partially from embracing prep styles
- avoid styles that are not feminine
- avoid wearing a lot of dark colors. I see a lot less black navy and dark brown in the south
- always wear some jewelry
- workout clothes are the cute kind, not an old tee shirt

You need to be kinder. WHAT WOULD JESUS DO IF HE WERE FEMALE?! Or something. Just because shoulder pads and teased hair come naturally to you don't mean they come naturally to others. Have some compassion.

Yes, Jesus would SO be rocking the Lilly P! He'd be loading up on sundresses to give Mary on mother's day so she would look chic on her jaunts between Jerusalem and Dubai

Nope. Originally sold in FL.

Well, Vineyard Vines is from New England, so there's that.

Wear your pearls everywhere (like the grocery store at 8:30 on Saturday morning).

I think this is really cute

Agree, I went on her blog and she looks great in all her pics. Not really what think of as Southern girl style (her tops are often pretty boho and she wears ripped jeans) but definitely super "put together" in terms of hair done, makeup done, heels all the time, accessories. Inspiring me to try wedge heels and off the shoulder tops! Although I can't help but think that at least part of the reason her outfits look great is that she is really really thin

Reese Witherspoon soes southern style well too.

Dunno why women in DC are so devoid of color. I just want to wear more color!
