Would you let your 4th and Kindergardener walk to school w/out an adult

Are you serious? What is wrong with you? No OP but how old were you when your mom let you walk to school or the bus stop without her? Do you realize kids in NYC take the subway to school without a parent starting in grade 3. They only issue parent cards for K-2nd students without older siblings.

My mom took me to school the very first day for bus pics. After that, I was walking home with 1-2 other kids starting at age 4 (when you used to start K) and shockingly I knew how to do it. AND no crossing guards.

The only reason YOUR kids can't do it is because you haven't taught them yet. But go ahead and keep coddling them while judging others.

OP - they could both handle walking 1.5 blocks to school with a crossing guard. They can definitely handle it together.

Yep. I'd watch from the driveway the first few times.

I would say yes. I walked a mile too and from school each way starting in K. This was in Miami in the 1970s. My sister joined me the next year.

However, this being Montgomery County, I wouldn't be surprised if someone calls CPS on OP.

I started walking home alone about nine blocks when I was eight. It scared me. I was worried I would get kidnapped.

Of course! My 4th and 1st grader bike a mile to school together. A MILE. The only reason they didn't do it together last year is because we have half day K.

Jesus people, it's a block and a half. Do your kids not have friends a block and a half away? Do you escort them there? Holy crap, that's insane.

Yes I would let them.

Yes, absolutely. And your K'er will probably be so thrilled by the independence that she'll be on her best behavior.

"GET IN THE CHOPPA!"

I would, but I'm the furthest thing from helicopter. I don't belong in this area. 1.5 blocks? I can't imagine NOT letting them do that.
Anonymous
Yes. Definitely, and I also know folks in my neighborhood that do the same.
