Especially to Annamdale. Yuck.

It's quite possible that someone with the bucks to live in McLean could just rent a townhouse near TJ and use McLean as a "weekend home". Ah, to have such decisions to make.

A weekend home?

I personally couldn't do this because I have 2 kids. I live in Mclean and have a 10 yr old who says he wants to go to TJ. I'm hoping he changes his mind before HS.

There's the tiny part, also, about actually being admitted.

Just a note that my freshman may leave TJ after this year because of the work load. I wouldn't be too happy if we'd moved to Annandale, only to have him leave the school. If he stays? That's another matter. I'd love to live closer in that case.

No one wants to think their kid is the one who won't like TJ but it happens. I'd suggest that they tough out the commute the first year and make the decision next February.

+100 Very good advice. Hope your freshman is happier and less weighed down by work at it his/her new school.

That's stupid.'mclean to Annandale just is t far enough to justify that. Chantilly makes more sense to me but McLean? 20 min away? Nuts.

I too am wondering where we should move. Anything within a short drive to TJ has bad schools, and we have two other kids. One is in middle school, and the other is in elementary. Does anyone have any ideas on a good neighborhood with good schools within a 25 min bus ride to TJ. Keep in mind, our budget is only 2100.

It takes about 20 minutes to get to TJ from J Gilbert's in mclean almost any time day or night (in the hot lanes). It will take you at least 10 from anywhere except the street next door to TJ.

Yep, West Springfield and Burke are both an easy drive to TJ and have good schools and affordable houses. They both have strong communities that are very friendly and welcoming.

How do the kids from Loudoun do it? These are really 1st world problems. Stay in McLean and see how it goes.

Hell yeah! We are planning to do that if he gets in (he is 2 mind you). I don't want him to have to travel to school. Not just for TJ, but any other school he might want to go and gets accepted. Right now we live 2 blocks from his future elementary school.
He might end up commuting to work his whole life. No need to start commuting in high school. My sister lives in Annandale so I don't find it to be a big deal.
From McLean to Annandale? Don't care for Mclean, but rather Vienna and Oakton and even then would move closer to TJ if he got accepted to there.
We haven't bought a forever home we would have hard time leaving or renting out. We will make the rental a new home for awhile. Anything to not have a long commute.

Something to have in mind, but the rental agreement is only a year also usually and then might goes month to month.

We're in the Robinson school district - we have 1 at TJ, 1 at Robinson, and another in Elementary. Our base pyramid is great, and the commute to TJ is not bad at all.

I think I've been behind your car in the car pool lane.
