Feedback on LAMB--Admitted Need Advice

You have a 0.1% chance of being admitted again if you decline. Take the spot.

Someone told me a few years ago when we got in - you get into LAMB, you go to LAMB, and they were right. It's one of the best charters in the city, with a longer record than any of the other HRCS, proven test scores, an administration that wins awards, a unique model (bilingual plus montessori), good campuses, and a strong aftercare program.

+1. To give you an idea of how strong the LAMB community is, they just had the annual fundraiser, and had 100% participation, and raised over $100,000, with no one selling anything (no selling cookies, auction, etc).

$100k with no auction? That's impressive.

You can also observe the classroom at any time. If you put a deposit down at a private, I would go there since you were obviously more serious about going to whatever private school you were considering.

Why would you say that? OP was playing her odds. What makes you say "obviously more serious..."? Anyway OP, I'd forget the deposit. Getting into LAMB is a long term decision for your DC and sibling. I wouldn't blink twice about losing the deposit. Hundreds of people would pay what you paid as a deposit times 10 for a long term solution like Lamb for two kids.

I'm the PP you're addressing. There isn't a private school I would switch my kids into over LAMB, but I'm trying to be as neutral as I can. My children love it and are thriving. If you feel ok losing the money I would go to LAMB in a heartbeat. LAMB is everything people say it is and more.

Every single kid donated money. It's a special place.

OP, I would take the spot. Make sure you are into bilingual education and Montessori. And of course the commute. But I would never pay for private school (especially for more than one kid) over LAMB. LAMB feels like a private school, with the added diversity bonus. And my husband and I feel like we one the powerball every single day. The $100k parent fundraising for such a small school (without an auction and for the third year in a row) should give you an idea of how beloved it is by those who attend.

Whoops, PP here. "won" not "one". Trying to multitask and failing.

I agree with PP. Parents and kids alike love it.

OP, please decline the spot and go to your private school. There are many people who need a spot at a great public charter and don't have any other options. Take your other option as you were planning to do and let a child that really needs that spot take it.

Stfu! So there's a means test to ensure the next kid in line doesn't come from a family that earns more than what, $100k?

OP, take the spot. Lamb is not just for needy (as you can tell by how they raised $100k and their low Farm rate).

OP, decide what's right for you, but not on the basis of this argument. Turning down the spot so someone needier could have it would be a lovely but absolutely futile gesture - you alone aren't going to make the difference or be able to control who gets the spot if you don't.

It rankles to hear LAMB parents bragging that they have saved $100,000 by being lucky in the lottery.

Yes, that was an actual Facebook post.
