Any experience with Social Clubs in DC?

You can't join unless your direct descendants were officers in the Continental Army. Yeah, they are that snooty.

Time-traveling descendants?!

I'm sure you mean ancestors.

This suggestion just pointed to the cluelessness of OP, woosh.

OP, I heard about someone renting a Dupont Circle mansion for a sleepover. This was like 20 yrs ago. Maybe they are on VRBO now...

New business idea: a club for the HHI parent set.

Party rooms (multiple!), babysitters/helpers that are club employees, excellent bar for the parents (and a fun kids room for the kids to go to), and some book-online napping spaces for tired parents who want to sneak away from the office for mid-day naps.

I'd join in a heartbeat!!!

i wouldn't be able to sign up fast enough.

More likely Cosmos.

Cretins, the University Club has better food.

OP, you're not clueless. You've just had better things to do with your time and your money.

The PP meant "you're." You're welcome, PP and PPP.

When we go there for holiday events, there are a lot of young boys in smocking and men in embroidered pants.

Seems to be an extremely old-money set.

I can't really imagine a group of people I'd want to spend time with less, especially people who would choose to join at my age (I'm 40).

Cosmos hasn't been a men's club since the early 80's.

Isn't the University for social climbers and not old money?

They're all just a heartbeat away...

We belong to Metropolitan and Sulgrave. We are 40somethings with school aged kids at DC privates. There are lots of members our age and younger too. It's a certain NWDC-private school set and Metropolitan at least isn't going to go down anytime soon. Very well subscribed.

OP, you can rent out the Mansion on O Street for a birthday party. You may have to join for one year.

I belong to the very fun City Tavern Club in Georgetown. Pretty easy to join, great venue with interesting history. Yes, they serve "club food" but I've had worse in expensive restaurants.

I have been in many of the various clubs in DC (Sulgrave, Metropolitan, Cosmos, University, Georgetown). I get its not for everyone, but it's not as bad as people make it out.

OP you may be looking for something like the City Club. It's more of a business club and I don't think there is much of membership hurdle. Not really a "club" though.

I go to the Metropolitan Club frequently for various events. I find it impossibly stuffy, and I'm over 50. Plus you aren't allowed to have phones out ever.

Try renting rooms or a room upstairs at the Tabard Inn for the party. Great food. Old world charm. And you don't need ten letters of recommendation to do so.

This is one of the reasons I like our club.

We live in the city and have no need for a country club but does anyone belong to the social clubs? Is this even a thing anymore? I don't know anyone who does.

OP, just for simplicity's sake, why don't you call the Italian Ambassador? They can throw a beautiful party in their garden.
