If you have a sibling that suddenly became rich...

My SIL got a couple large inheritances and now they have a lot of money. I feel you, OP, but here is what I have come to realize from my own experience.

Try hard to separate that which comes out of (understandable) envy, and what is truly "objectionable" behavior on your sibling's part. You mention nannies and cleaning help. Nothing is wrong with that and most people would do it to if they could. You mention having family gatherings in their house. Are they truly "demanding" it? Or are they offering their home because it has more space? Have they really said no to having gatherings at your parents' house?

If you really got together frequently and now you do not, I can see why that is hurtful? Do you invite them to things?

I'm not trying to judge you. In struggle with my feelings toward my brother. Most of it is really routed in personality traits he already had, just slightly exaggerated because of the money.

My brother became an executive at a large company a few years ago and was making more money than he ever had before, and a great deal of money for the state he lives in and the cost of living there. And things very much changed -- he sort of started trying to act like the head of the family and make decisions for everyone. He rolled over me a few times.

But then he lost his job and has been unemployed for several months. At first, I admit, I felt a little schadenfreude but now I'm just worried about him and his family.

All glory is fleeting.
