Need a suggestion for a good meal-train meal - vegetarian

Anonymous
I am a vegetarian (leaning vegan) and not Indian. I love Indian food, and I work hard to try to make it at home. I would love it if someone who actually knew what they were doing would bring a vegetarian Indian dish to my house. Go for it, OP. I think that they will get a lot of pasta and enchiladas from other people.

Also, thank you to the crock pot curry poster. I am going to make this (with the cauliflower substitution for chicken) this weekend!

I don't like Indian food. It would go in the trash in our house (just being honest).

Also, Indian food is great. Some Chana Masala or Channa Saag with a side of rice, raita and naan. It keeps well and is soo tasty!

I woudlnt bring Indian food to a nursing mom.

Because the spiciness can affect the baby.

Right. Because Indian moms abstain from eating for the first 12-15 months to not affect the baby.

Fixings for taco/taco salad. Black beans instead of meat.

I hate how most if the vegetarian suggestions end up being cheese and pasta bombs. I think dairy is more likely problematic for baby than the Indian food! I think the Indian and soup suggestions are great.

+1 billion of the sub-continent. You know the poster who just made the bolded statement has one of those kids who only eats bland food. Eating a diverse diet while you're nursing is beneficial for the baby. They adopt your tastes. Lots of spices are beneficial to your health.

I would love it if an Indian friend made Indian food for me!! What a treat. Go for that, OP.

Agree! A non-Indian friend brought mediocre Chana masala after I had twins and I was thrilled. Good Indian food would have made me ecstatic!

as an Indian mom of two, they are VERY careful what they eat the first three months. No "heavy" lentils like chickpeas, kidney beans, only masoor dal (can't think of the english name, pink lentils), rice, light on spices, and several other things (based on Ayurveda). So, as a new Indian mom who LOVES Indian food, your Chana Masala and Chana Saag would go int the trash, or the rest of the family would eat it. So the above poster was right, you have to be careful what food you bring to a nursing mom. Personally, I liked a quinoa pilaf with veggies, or a light soup, something not cheesy and heavy.

NP here. I'm an Indian mom as well, and in my family there's nothing wrong with Chana Masala and Chana Saag for a nursing mom. They're high protein and healthy, which is what a nursing mom needs. India is a huge country with a lot of variation in customs and traditions.
