Such a small group of kods who attended this trip and an even smaller group that extended. Tuesd poor children. Not only were they abused by this creep, but keeping their identities private with such a small group will be next to impossible. How horrible for these children and their families. |
So a Langley dad sends his 15 yr old overseas for 6 weeks and then says "kinda just assumed it was school-sponsored...kinda implicit." As a parent of former Langley student, I find this statement hard to believe. We see those fliers for trips all the time and know of a family who enthusiastically sent 3 kids on this German exchange program and trip. There's plenty of blame to go around but come on dad, take reponsibility for knowing if this was a "school sponsored" trip. Here's one clue: who did you write the $3000 check to? It certainly was not FCPS. |
How lame are you today? |
The ONLY reason those parents sent their children on that trip with that individual is because he was a teacher at the school. He offered this trip to the kids at school. The group of kids that went were his students. It absolutely was connected to the school. |
Some parents were telling their kids to stay away from this man. They knew something was not right. Always listen to your gut with matters of safety. Of course The Washington Post is still being silent on this news. Let's see at what point they can no longer ignore this. |
Exactly. They can't weasel out of this. FCPS hosted the German exchange students for one month. |
I hope they do not shutdown all trips.
I know the parents knew it was NOT school sponsored. Our DS went on Russian trip. It was the highlight of his time at Langley. Teacher and Principal both made clear it was not school sponsored. |
Probably a lot of the parents had never even met this guy but thought he was o.k. because he was a teacher. And surely he wouldn't be a teacher at the school if he wasn't o.k., right? I totally understand how those parents had a false sense of security about this creep. I feel so bad for those kids. |
That is the sad thing. There are so many good and decent teachers who simply want to give their students a fun, wholesome and memorable adventure of a lifetime. To go to Russia! How many opportunities in life are you going to get to go to Russia? I feel badly for the good teachers too. |
Curious what was generally known at Cooper and Langley about him. And where did he work before that? I heard he went to college in FL and was into scuba diving back then. I also think he had lived in San Fransisco for a while. |
What classes was he teaching at Langley?
What years was he at Langley? What years was he at Cooper? |
When did he lose his teaching license? Was it right away when he resigned or is it just happening now?
Why is this coming out in the news now? |
He taught German at Langley. Not sure about Cooper.
I think someone tipped off NBC, and they did the work of blowing open what happened. Our public schools should be legally mandated to report to media the sexual abuse of students by school staff or volunteers. And the gender of the perp and of the victim(s). Same for student deaths. Possible suicides are not a private matter, considering that one of the reported reasons is the crushing workload. Names can be withheld, but not the troubling death of a student. |
My guess is that it's coming out now because a parent that didn't get their deposit back or a parent of a student that went on the trip felt like FCPS wasn't responding to their concerns and notified an NBC investigative reporter. |
If this is what happened, it speaks very badly of our public school system. Who does the board answer to? |
