TJ admissions decisions dates?

Anonymous
I don't have any inside info but, looking at the calendar, maybe 4/21 late afternoon since there is no school on Friday for parents to call and complain.

They notified on March 30th last year, during Spring Break.

That seems early. Anybody think there is a chance they would release them this Friday afternoon, since Monday is a student holiday and the committee has had all of this week without students? Or is that just hopeless?

Before people jump in line to say that they will be out when they're out, I get this. And it's not that I can't wait another second, although it would be nice to settle DS's HS. But TJ admissions are going to end up having a big impact on DS's summer plans, and by extension our entire family's. If he were to get in and decides to attend (his call), he would probably need to do summer school because he plays an instrument and wants to try to keep up with band in HS. Which impact the timing of our summer vacations, which impacts the dates of his sibling's camps, etc. Plus, if he is not in summer school, there is a camp he wants to attend with a hard registration deadline in earl-mid April. TJ is a probably a long shot for DS, as it is for many kids in the pool. But not impossible, so I don't want to put him in a position where summer school is impossible.

Long winded way to say. Anyone out there in DCUMland have a sense about whether decisions might be out by late in the first week/ early in the second week of Apeil?

Just for information purpose may we know which camp he is going to attend. Some of us may want to try such camp activities.

UVA's SEP is the one that concerns me. He's already applied, and will get a response by 4/15 (last year it was closer to 4/1) . We're hoping he will get in, because he has the last couple of years. But session I is before the end of school, so he could only apply to II & III which are during TJ summer school.

I would be so nice of someone in the know would take pity and leak info anonymously. Anyone? Please?

SEP is good program http://curry.virginia.edu/community-programs/student-enrichment/sep and you may be able to do I session by skipping last few days of school (as nothing happens at that time SOL's will be already done). In any case that's pointless because application process for SEP is over. Summer High School course are very hard to do, need to spend 5-6 hours everyday because they finish semester worth of curriculum in about 6 weeks.

I don't have any inside knowledge but I really doubt it. I assume those folks are on break, too. And that would be earlier than last year and everything was delayed 3-4 weeks this year. I'm betting on 4/22.

But that's after the high school pupil placement request deadline! I guess I should submit the request just in case.

Yes. Do. I spoke with the IB coordinator at the school we are PP into, and she said to turn in the paperwork as early as possible, to make sure we got our target school, and it doesn't close for transfers. If DC is accepted to TJ and decides to attend, the Pupil Placement will be overridden by the TJ enrollment. We did ours in January, and it took 5 minutes to do the paperwork, plus the time to deliver to the base HS.

It may not mean anything, but...

TJ admissions website just posted that this year's open house is 4/9. But it is the one open to everyone, not just new admittees. Still have to wonder if they would hold it before decisions came out. If they did, that's 1000 extra kids who would show up, but not ultimately be admitted. So maybe this evening or next Friday. But this is a guess only.

Thank you! This is great information.

The fact they plan to host the TJ open house and to invite all PROSPECTIVE students and their parents on April 9 tells me that the acceptance date has to be after 4/9. Why would they still want to invite all prospective students to the 4/9 open house if the acceptance was made before 4/9.

I still bet on April 21.

Traditionally, this is mobbed with kids 1st grade and up-- tons of kids who are years away from applying. Not just limited to rising freshmen.

So is the April 9th open house for accepted students? Or will there be another open house for just the accepted students? That general one was a cluster last year.

I think the Open House referred to here is the one held in the Fall. The one in the spring is usually for accepted students. Then there is usually another evening for registration where kids can also sign up for clubs and sports.
