Safeway - dislike most.
- has no organic section. Meat often is spoiled when I open it same day Harris Teeters - tied dislike most - diagonal aisles are a cluster fuck it's annoying - meat section is very tiny and ghetto like walmart My favorites: #1 - MOMS organic market - if they had a real meat department, I'd do my entire shop there. I love the lay out, only like 5 aisles to make it thru, never lines, happy vibe, great cheap organic produce and staples like $3 canned tomatoes and bulk rice and beans and so many organic snacks for DD. BUT, the meat department is a joke it's like 3 feet barely anything weird tasting grass fed ground beef and $14 for 2 chicken breasts. I just want plain old meat lots of variety. #2 - Giant - love hate relationship. I love the reliable quality of the meat and the enormous variety. They have anything and everything I can do my entire shop there. Its unavoidable I have to buy meat there. I hate how packed it gets though stresses me out. |
I forgot #3 - Trader Joes. It's ok for in between shops when you don't need too much stuff. Their ground beef, chicken, and ffrozen fish is very good. I live close to Whole Foods but it's dead last on my list. Food selection is terrible, prices are terrible, there's no point to shop there except the fabulous vitamin and personal care section and incense. Also, get the coupon books at the cashier at MOMs! |
| I'd love to see more Posts here people - how do u fanagle food shopping??? |
|
Love love love Grosvenor Market.
Dislike the most: I have such unfond memories of the (Bethesda area) Giant and Safeway growing up that we go maybe once a year. |

Aldi - huge savings

| Ladies tell me how you buy quality meat, like chicken breasts, a variety of steak, and ground beef without going to giant or safeway. I need ideas. |
| The Giant on Westbard seems to have a limited selection of fresh meat these days. You used to able to buy flank and skirt steaks and brisket but now they only have Hormel brands and other vacuum wrapped meats on display. The main alternatives nearby are Whole Foods on River, which I hate due to the parking lot and the Safeway on Sangamore, which is the worst managed store I have ever seen. |
| Buy most meats at costco in bulk as you can great great organic/gradsfed stuff. Most produce is safeway as ours has high quality and organic. TJs for certain items we love. Never shop at giant- so disgusting. WF too expensive and not always quality. |
Wow - do you like anything? |
Wegmans and Costco |
Sadly only moms. I just wish moms had a real meat dept and more items for sandwiches. |
| I love Relayfoods (maybe not what you were asking, since it's a delivery service and not a store, so feel free to ignore!). Their meat options are pricey, but so worth it -- we've been ordering from there for a couple years now, and we've been so impressed with the meats and milk. |
Costco. The organic chicken is reasonably priced and freezes well. So is the organic ground beef. I parcel the (conventional) pork and beef into dinner-sized baggies and freeze. I go to Costco about once a month. |

My number 1 dislike is Harris Teeter. So many people in my suburb love it, but the produce is disgusting, the meat even more so, and the prices are outrageous. I don't dislike Wegmans, but I think it's overrated.
I used to prefer our Safeway above all else and our local Giant was a mess, but recently, I've found that our Giant's produce is a lot better (and more varied) than the Safeway's. The prices are better too. I do love Whole Foods, but I'd bankrupt my family shopping there exclusively. I used to shop at TJ's more, but I don't anymore. I mostly stock up on meats and dry goods at Costco, buy Greek olive oil at TJ's, and everything else at Safeway or Giant. |
Cheap produce at Mom's? A bunch of green onions/scallions was $1.69 last week. Same for cilantro. Produce is more expensive than at Whole Foods and has less variety. |
