| There seems little profit to a school to have a charade of a waitlist. Of course, the existence of a waitlist doesn't mean the school necessarily accepts people from it every year in every grade, as it's there in case fewer than expected people accept the admissions offer. And your individual chances also depend not only on your child's relative merits but also on who doesn't take offer (boy/girl, diversity, athletics, etc. - all the various factors they look at to round out a particular class/grade). |
| My son is w/l for 9th. He said kids were crying at school today bc no one got in and some said they didn't even get w/l. He doesn't know a single person that got in. Sad. |
| +1 and same result. Sickening...quite frankly. Seems as if the school creates a lot of false expectations. |
Would you mind sharing your school? |
How so? |
Arlington public middle school |
| I'm the OP. Is anyone getting into Potomac for 4th grade? Seems like very few are posting acceptances. |
They have lots feeder privates that are K-8. Makes a difference. Also from private they know parents can pay. Just being realistic. |
| those applying to K at Potomac must remember that there are 2 classes - 15 kids each. 1/2 are girls and 1/2 are boys. 1/3 are from VA, 1/3 are from MD and 1/3 from DC. Then take into account siblings (which do not always get in), Board member's kids and grandkids and legacies and your chances are slim to none. Getting a spot in K at Potomac is like winning the lottery. |
Do they have the same gender/location requirements for 9th? |
3 classes not two. |
And the handful of kids that get in at 9th are mostly from FCPS (McLean area MS specifically) |
Williamsburg? |
3 classes of 18, not 15. And I do not think there is truth to the gender/geographic breakdown previously posted. They aim for 50/50 gender split, but does not always work out. Seems more heavily weighted VA/DC than MD. |
Sorry... 3 classes of 16. |
