Coworker made me miss our flight

Okay, if you knew this going into it and it was literally your responsibly to babysit her and handhold, you completely failed. I mean, she sounds inept and like a child, and I'm not sure what "business" she could be capable of that necessitates a business trip, but it was your responsibility to babysit a person that has flown once in her life.

You should have gone over things a little more with her, including what to bring.

I was explicitly told to stay with her because she hasn't traveled before.

Do you always do as you are told? Anything?

If my manager tells me to do it, yes. If I'd have left her, he'd be just as angry.

I assume you explained to him what happened. Is he still mad at you or your coworker?

Most competent individuals would research air travel before they do it. It doesn't bode well for her performance at work in general.

She's not sorry. We were rebooked on the next flight, so she doesn't see it as a big deal.

(And we're weren't late, but I had to sit at the airport for another 3 hours, which makes me....grouchy)

At me. He said that she needed to know everything, and that meant everything. Liquids? Really? Has she been living under a rock?

I'd leave her next time, if there is a next time. Unless she has disabilities, I don't see why she can't function as a regular adult.

I guess I was so worried about our vendor visit and her dressing appropriately that I didn't focus on anything else. She's a very new hire, and we had to make it clear that jeans aren't appropriate for a supplier meeting. I am technically skilled at my job, but am not so much a people person.

PP you responded to. I read your follow-up responses. If you were given orders to stay with her, then definitely you did right. How explicit were the instructions concerning the baby-sitting? You could complain to your bosses that you couldn't know the depth of such ignorance. Why didn't the co-worker consult the TSA website? Airlines have guidelines for suitcase dimensions. If would have been nice if you could have spoonfed her this information, and apparently your boss wanted you do to whatever it took.

I think the responsibility is shared between all of you, OP: you, the co-worker and the boss. Further recriminations are useless in such an atypical case as this. Lesson learned for next time!

Is she sleeping with this manager or something? Or the manager's manager? I don't know why the manager is babying her like this.

Wow OP

I would of left her at the hotel and got on the flight. Not my problem she woke up late. She's a grown ass woman.

1. She woke up late
2. Was at the airport and hour and a half later than we agreed to
3. Left her laptop bag in her car
4. Didn't know you couldn't bring liquids through security
5. Wore these ridiculous 4 inch heels so she could barely walk through the terminal.

I basically dragged her as fast as I could through the airport, and we still missed our flight. Our manager is furious with me because I didn't explain to her about the liquids and that she couldn't carry on a giant suitcase, etc, or explain to her her decent travel attire. I guess I am wondering if this is really my responsibility? I travel 150,000 miles a year and it never occurred to me to tell someone in 2015 that they can't bring a huge bottle of shampoo or a giant suitcase on the plane. I was at the airport almost 3 hours before our flight, but there wasn't much I could do besides call her when she didn't show up on time.

How do I fix this in the future? I am not her manager.

Sorry, can't believe any of this. You say you travel a lot --why did you show up 3 hours before the flighr?

It's extremely difficult to get a headcount increase at our company. We finally did after four years of begging and she was promoted internally. She is capable at some of the work, but is not...well traveled. I guess the short answer is, we need warm bodies to do the easy stuff.

Probably because they were traveling with this idiot coworker and expected some delays.

Is your boss like this in other ways? So weird. Why on earth would you be responsible for telling her that she can't bring a bottle of water through security?
