If you were given orders to stay with her, then definitely you did right. How explicit were the instructions concerning the baby-sitting? You could complain to your bosses that you couldn't know the depth of such ignorance. Why didn't the co-worker consult the TSA website? Airlines have guidelines for suitcase dimensions. If would have been nice if you could have spoonfed her this information, and apparently your boss wanted you do to whatever it took. I think the responsibility is shared between all of you, OP: you, the co-worker and the boss. Further recriminations are useless in such an atypical case as this. Lesson learned for next time!
