Who is telling the truth - Pelosi or the CIA?

Your statement makes absolutely no sense!

Of course she knew. Did you watch her fumble the press conference? It was a pathetic embarrassment.

I say we publicly waterboard Pelosi and get the truth. I would get my popcorn and have front row seats.

I also found it very painful watching pelosi fumble during her press conference.

I am even surprised that she would do this. I know quite a few CIA people and suspect one may be undercover CIA (another story) but..these are really really dedictated people and they stay through many adminstrations that are both repub and democrat. I am happy that Leon Panetta did the right thing--it's the first time in awhile that I saw someone who has every incentive to be partisian, since he is a political appointment,..do the right thing and just say the facts without any spin.

Wait! Are you seriously suggesting that we give Pelosi a pass because she happens to be a SHE? Is this equal rights? Feminism? And we cannot oppose the President of the United States on anything because he might happen to be a minority or even worse, a woman? Get a grip. We can disagree, and you don't have to buy into Conservative values, but honestly, since when do we have protected classes in government that we are unable to disagree with?

The real question is who cares? Why is this such a big issue? Oh, it's b/c the Repuglicans need something to distract from the main issue of why we were waterboarding in the first place...

Sorry the left started it and it shows that we were in a time in this country where the need for security meant we have to do this and the left was right there in it until it became unpopular so no we aren't going to let it go.

You may be right that we should not let it go. But exactly what are we not going to let go of: deciding whom to blame or deciding whether we did the right thing (and if not, how to avoid repeating it)?

In other words, assuming Pelosi knew and did nothing, is the person who stands by and watches a crime being committed but does not intervene as guilty as those committing the crime? Or, before worrying about that, should we first decide whether there was a crime?

What could she have done if the information was classified? This is what I fail to understand. I am tired of incidents like this detracting from the main issue, U.S. sanctioned torture. If Pelosi's fudging about when the CIA briefed her, that's a real shame but what does that change about waterboarding? And what about Graham's interview with Huffington Post?

Pelosi supports a truth commission to investigate and reveal who knew what when, and -- more importantly -- who did what when. Do you also support a truth commission or will you be ready to "let it go" before it reaches that point?

Would you still feel the same if it turns out that Congress was lied to about the use of torture? Or does this satisfy you only because you think that she is in the wrong?

How someone can watch Pelosi and not want to vomit is beyond me. The CIA went after Bush and they are going to do a number on Pelosi, too.

My two cents worth - Pelosi is lying. BFD - probably is not the first and won't be the last time. She is a politician. Monday morning quarterbacking is useful to provide direction going forward, but you never get a do-over of Sunday's game, and honestly aren't things like record unemployment, record budget deficits, etc. more compelling than who knew what when about something we are all pretty divided over being wrong or right anyway?

For the first time in a long time I am proud of someone--Leon Panetta. I actually feel a little bit better about the government because I realize it must have been dificult for him to not act partisian. I have never doubted the CIA and always doubt politicians..all politicians and even though he was one and is a political appointee..I feel as though he is telling the truth and is going to do right for us no matter who is going to get pissed off by the truth.

I hate to disabuse you of your respect for Panetta, but you really need to take a serious look at his statement rather than simply believe what has been spun to you. The statement really added nothing to the debate. He said it is not the CIA's policy to mislead Congress. You know, it is not my policy to oversleep in the morning, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen on occasion. He said that it is up to Congress to determine the veracity of the CIA documents and we already know that they were wrong in the case of former-Senator Graham.

Frankly, Panetta's statement was a text-book example of political weasel words.
