Janney Open House this week - discussion on class size?

+1. PP's response is one reason of many we would NEVER consider Janney. Bitchy, rude parents. Worst in DC.

There are some very nice parents at Janney, of course, but you may have to work a little harder to find them.

It is impossible to say anything on this board about Janney without being attacked.

It is a wonderful school, not perfect but no school is. They are still considering what to do about class size next year. This year the third grade is a very large cohort with 30 kids a class and two fully certified teachers per classro

Thanks - do you have a sense if next year will be similar?

Hit submit too soon.

Two teachers per classroom in third. My understanding from the state of the school meeting is that dcps has new methods for projecting enrollment and we should have better data going forward. There are different solutions under consideration but we do not yet know how the larger cohorts will be handled. I like the new principal, she is not Norah but she is very on top of things and has her own plans, I am willing to wait and see but my children are not in the large cohort grades.

Also, I like the families very much.

Any discussion on how they will accommodate the planned DCPS mandatory 10% set aside for "at risk" students at Janney?

Janney is considered the flagship DCPS elementary school and is not only alphabetically, but deservedly, the first letter in "JKLM." Ten years ago, I would have said Mann was the best, but Janney has continued to get better and better. Not to mention that Janney feeds to coveted Deal M.S., while Mann unfortunately still feeds to inferior Hardy.

Can anyone share from the state of school what the plans are? Thanks!

We live IB and currently have our children enrolled in another school. We are planning on enrolling them in Janney for next year. I was unable to attend the Open House and thought maybe someone did and had information they would share.

Thanks for being so welcoming to what we plan to be our new school.

IB families are always welcome, especially if you live in the "heart" of the Janney community (west of Wisconsin Ave).

Seriously? Who are these crazy Janney posters. Are your kids actually at the school?

And if you live EOWA? What then...

I hope 12:14 is joking also, with the use of "flagship" to refer to an elementary school.

It had to be a joke, the word flagship doesn't even make sense in this context.

Not so sure any of that is a joke. The EOWA comment sounds like a joke, the others, they do not.
