How is Mount Pleasant?

yep, up here in the far far far away NW neighborhoods that are a daunting 2.8 miles from the MtP library, we creaky Gen Xers are pushing our walkers together for a swell dominoes tournament tomorrow, catered by Panera. But only if it doesn't overlap with the CBS evening news, of course. We'll look so longingly at the definitely not-suburban, leafy, two-storey ultra-urban streetscapes of MtP, and we'll wonder where it all went so wrong.

We will certainly not wonder why the tastemakers of MtP don't clamor to send their kids to MacFarland MS (authentic, closer, grittier, and the Holy Grail of millennials: walkable!) instead of bourgie Deal, which let's be honest, is full of the spawn of us geezers. See also, "hearst" and "eaton."

Mount Pleasant is a designated historic district so I can't imagine you can just tear down the house. I have no idea what is going on with the house structurally but that price is super low for the size and the area, so I imagine it must be serious.

I live in the same area of Mount Pleasant as this house and love it. It's very very friendly--people say hi, know their neighbors. Lots of kids. The area is quiet with lots of trees and is very near Rock Creek Park. This house is about 2 blocks away from Bancroft Elementary.

There really are not that many people in the neighborhood with kids who send them to Bancroft. They like the idea of a neighborhood school, but they just can't bring themselves to send their kids to a school with so many FARMS students and so few white kids. People claim things are changing, but the demographic information released by DCPS says otherwise. The overwhelming majority of Bancroft students are come from the low-income apartments off Mount Pleasant St.

I send both my kids to Bancroft -- it's great. Lots of non-white kids is almost always a strong positive.

Positive only in the sense of strong correlation with low achievement.

Positive in the sense of not ending up with white douchebaggery as the cultural default. Thankfully on a national scale we're moving away from that, but it doesn't hurt to push it aside in the personal sphere as well.
