Mt Pleasant is probably the best neighborhood in DC if you're a millennial urbanist looking to have kids and send them to public school. The only reason it's more affordable than far NW neighborhoods like AU park is that the tastes of older generations who currently dominate the real estate market lean to the painfully suburban. Whether the current house you've chosen is the right place to buy in Mt P is another question.
yep, up here in the far far far away NW neighborhoods that are a daunting 2.8 miles from the MtP library, we creaky Gen Xers are pushing our walkers together for a swell dominoes tournament tomorrow, catered by Panera. But only if it doesn't overlap with the CBS evening news, of course. We'll look so longingly at the definitely not-suburban, leafy, two-storey ultra-urban streetscapes of MtP, and we'll wonder where it all went so wrong. We will certainly not wonder why the tastemakers of MtP don't clamor to send their kids to MacFarland MS (authentic, closer, grittier, and the Holy Grail of millennials: walkable!) instead of bourgie Deal, which let's be honest, is full of the spawn of us geezers. See also, "hearst" and "eaton."
