| My child goes to Dorothy Height ES and I like it. |
Okay, obvious school employee. an actual parent would have given some details. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Everything is window dressing, because that is what CAPCS is about. Their decade+ record speaks for itself. It is fine if you are IB for pre-k and can't afford daycare. A kid Kindergarten and above is learning just enough to pass standardized tests, and scores show they aren't even learning that. |
There is no IB for this school. DCPS took it over from a failed charter school. At the time they promised to talk to the community about what was going to happen with the school, but they haven't told us anything. There's barely any info on it on the DCPS profiles page. I think anyone rezoned from Powell or West to Dorothy Height would be pretty pissed. |
Nice necrobump.

| (21:42 poster) I bumped it because I was curious for more recent thoughts about it. I haven't visited DCUM in grip, but now the lottery is out. I left the area for a while, but came back mid-school year and found PK3 slots at Dorothy and Raymond nearby. Our IB is Bancroft (PK4 WL at #12) and cannot afford daycare. Waitlisted at #18 for Bruce-Monroe and Cleveland; #27 at Breakthrough. Matched at Cooke, but thinking of staying at Dorothy. |
| It's hard to mess up PK. Maybe that's a good long term use for the school. Make it a PK campus that's overflow for the IB at nearby schools that have IB wait lists. |
