For some reason, whenever anyone asks for Indian baby name help many posters seem to feel the need to repost any and all previous similar queries.

Yet there can be dozens and dozens of other baby name help questions daily, boy or girl, and people just participate instead of reposting older posts.

Uh, well, those names you listed are the westernized abbreviated names

I had Indian friends named Gopalakrishna and Venkatesh
Are you Indian? If so you know know some names?

Those are not westernized names, they are names. Raj is often times a nickname, yet still a legitimate Indian name and Indian nickname.

Gopalkrishna and Venkatesh are very South Indian names, they are also names that are more common in older generations not current. You know like the differences between American names that were popular in the 70s v/s now. That may or may not be what OP is looking for.

(Yes names have popularity decades in other cultures too. Must be surprising to you.)

Have you only known 2 Indians in your lifetime? Time to expand your horizons.

I like the name Kiran, although, my $0.02, it doesn't sound Indian to me. I would probably assume it's a different spelling of Kieran, like Kieran Culkin.

I've always liked the name Nesan (sounds like Nathan with an s).

I thought names were given based on some sort of feat.... i.e. Dances with Wolves.

In that case, your name must be "Lame Comedienne".

Normally I would simply delete this post and I apologize to the OP for further disrupting her thread. But, I am getting really sick and tired of this antic. The first of this sort of joke about Indian names was probably made on DCUM over 10 years ago. It may have been mildly humorous at the time. When it was repeated shortly thereafter, it had lost any sense of humor. Now, after seeing these jokes hundreds of times, they are very, very, very not funny. Needless to say, they are not original. I get the sense that posters see these posts and think they can be just like the cool kids if they do it next time. So, I want to make it very clear that such posts are not funny and not appropriate.

NP who just wants to say thank you to Jeff. This type of post is so infuriating.

Kiran is a very common Indian name, actually, for men and women.

OP - a few that I can think of (all are very common): Aron, Aakash, Rakesh, Pavan, Nikhil, Rohan, Neal, Kiran, Rohit, Sanjay, Jai, Dev/Devon, etc...

That's because there are only 10 - 15 indian boy names that meet the usual specifications of being easy to pronounce, spell, etc. There's really not much more to be discussed. If there were more interesting requests such as, indian boy names that fit a certain category like, popular in Bollywood, famous names, mythological names, names from a certain region, modern vs. classical names, names representing famous indians, names currently popular in India, etc., there would be more to discuss.
