Where should I stay all summer with 3-year-old?

Northern MI is gorgeous.

There are forgotten parts of New England and NY state that are cheaper than the hot spots.

NE Kingdom in VT
A lot of Maine
Less fancy parts of the Adirondacks
Southern Tier of NY

That would probably get you a nice place in Mexico, NY. There is a University and one of the Great Lakes.

South Shore of Lake Superior. Beautiful up there, lots of small towns. Cheap, too.

Not northern, so I may be off base here, but if you are flexible on location, consider Cape Charles on the eastern shore of Va. It's really affordable and fun for young families.

New Hampshire or VT, but not on a lake. Try Burlington or the Dartmouth area.
